2014/2015 Snowmobile Season Thread

No, I haven’t, but pick it up so I have someone to ditch bang with. Everyone I know mostly wants to bar hop and that gets old real quick.

I have one. I like it. For only being a 500 4 stroke, it moves ok. Low end is decent, top end is really flat. I top out around 80mph and it takes a bit to get there, however, it is really comfortable to ride and handle. Much slower than my 700srx, but a lot more comfortable and enjoyable to ride.

I’d clutch it and do a few things and make it a 0-60 machine

Had a weird one happen saturday, maybe you guys have some ideas. 2006 Ski-doo MXZ 600 SDI X package. Took off from Clarence and about the time we hit Marilla I noticed it was bottoming the rear suspension really easy. Next road crossing I stopped to check it out and the front shock of the track suspension was fully compressed and not rebounding. There was a ton of ice buildup and near the end of our last time out I had gotten stuck in a culvert with a bunch of water under the snow (fun times when it’s -5 outside BTW). We put the sled on it’s side and I couldn’t get the suspension to budge so I just rode it slowly back to the trailer. A few minutes after loading it on the trailer while I’m loading gear in my trunk my buddy yells to me, “It just released”. He was on the phone and was staring at it when all of a sudden it just dropped back down.

I called it a day anyway and when I got home ramped the snow banks in front of my house trying to make it get stuck again and couldn’t. Picked up the rear and slammed it down with all my weight, fully compressing it, still couldn’t get it to stick again. Put the sled in the garage and melted most of the ice off the rear end. With everything melted I could finally see the links and springs and nothing appears damaged. At this point unless someone has some other theory I’m going to chalk it up to too much ice buildup and head out riding.

EDIT:
Skid was pulled in the fall and completely gone through and greased as well. Shocks have not been rebuilt since before I got it and I plan on having them done in the off season.

When was the last time the shocks were serviced? It isnt uncommon for the bushings in the front arm to seize up, all 4 of mine had flat spots worn in them when i replaced them.

Yeah, just added the edit. Those bushings were new this fall and the ones that came out were pretty flat spotted. Shocks I’m not sure when they were last serviced. Sled had 3600 miles on it when I got it and it’s over 7500 now so I know they’re due.

@JayS Ha! They were due 4k miles ago but i still doubt that was the cause of this issue, maybe contributed to it but that alone wouldnt keep the spring from returning.

Shocks should be rebuilt every year. Good chance you seal is leaking and letting snow/ice into the shock body and it froze.

This

Just saw this thread pop up can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner. Been riding for a decade or so now. Just picked up my first new sled this past weekend. '15 Renegade Adrenaline 800 R e-Tec. Hoping to meet up with some of you before this season is over

Hopefully the shocks have enough life to get through the rest of this season then. Riding usually goes downhill fast when March hits.

 Post up some pics, love the new ones.
I’m on an 2004 500SS right now, but will be on a '12 or '13 Skidoo XRS next year.

So hot…love the orange SkiDoo is going on their color schemes. What is your feedback on that sled so far, how is the 800 etec…much difference from ptek (mpg, power, etc)
Filling up at QuikFill, I’m live right down there road from there.

I live in that area too kens is a 5 minute ride through a neighborhood for me. Going out today around 5 if you’re around.

On the sled… so far I’m obviously in love. It’s still going through the break in period (at 50% at the moment) so it doesn’t let me go nuts quite yet. Handles much nicer than my 04 adrenaline 800. Love the riding position, love the power and actually falling in love with how quiet it is. I added studs to the track and LED’s for night riding and I can’t even begin to tell you how much of a difference that makes. I would recommend this sled to anyone who loves to ride.

Sounds like the exact sled I want to step up to
Ken’s is a 7 minute ride for me…lol. Where abouts on the trail do you live? My backyard is the Aldingers farm land right near the Three Rod crossing where the houses are on the left heading toward the Whistle Stop.
Not sure about riding today but 100% will be at Wales Center tomorrow for wing night…

Jay you need the shocks rebuilt its not that expensive. If they are really bad you will be bouncing on every bump and will ruin your day. If you plan on riding more this winter take the couple hours to pull it and have it back in 1-2 days.

Who do you guys take your shocks too? A friend of mine recommended Motovate Performance in Victor but I wouldn’t mind hearing some other reviews.

Damn dude i know nothing about this sport you all speak of, but that sled is hott.

I’ve always used Motion Craft in EA but that’s far for you. Last time I had one done I think it was either $40 or $60 a shock.
