2014/2015 Snowmobile Season Thread

Yes I’ve heard the trails are awesome out this way. I’m hitting up Wales Center Hotel, Byrncliff and then back to Alden…going to be cold but trails should be mint.

I got an update from a friend earlier and I feel terrible for her and Jesse. Even the best riders can’t control what happens when speed and ice are a factor. I’m not saying that either were a factor here because I don’t know, but I do know that I had a nasty accident last year on ice and it was a big part of my decision to sell my sled for now.

I just hope everyone takes it easy out there with all the ice and just ride smart.
@JayS sorry to see your sled let you down. I know when it gets this cold, things that normally don’t break, start to. Glad to see you got a quick fix coming for it.

Seeing as I just had that chain case completely torn apart while doing the track I’m pretty sure this was my fault not the cold. Been watching some videos about adjusting the chain tension and I think I had it too tight. The upper and lower gears were still securely bolted on and spun freely so I can’t t think of many other things it could have been.

heard there was an accident up in the northtowns as well. be careful out there.
@JayS if there wer no broken links in the chain then it definitely broke from being too tight. on sleds that don’t have the automatic tensioner, i like to adjust them with the chain case cover off. you want a pretty decent amount of slack but not where its loose or flopping around(pushing the chain side to side with your fingers to check adjustment). i pull the cover off on sleds yearly to inspect everything anyways. its quick and easy. ATF is fine for use in the chain case, cheaper than buying “chain case oil” from the dealer.

i’ve been doing this for a long time on many sleds from trail to race and have never had a failure.

I always did finger tight then back off 1/2 - 1 turn.

Yeah, it’s not great. Our friend set up a go fund me account. I’m not great work posting. Maybe you could make a thread if I send you the link?

Eden VFW to Uncle Franks. Trails are pretty nice.

Did Alden to Wales Center Hotel last night, couldn’t ask for better trails. A few icy corners but nothing crazy.
Be careful out there, trails are smooth and very fast…

marillas closing there trails Saturday morning, where you guys going this weekend?

Did a little loop in Wyoming county tonight with @Shockwave179 and some friends.

Rode with Justin from Alden lanes around 530 to Frostys(ripped down the powerline the whole way), stopped for gas at Country Fair on the way, then went up to Uncle Franks and headed back up from there around 11. long ass day of riding. put on about 150 miles.

trails were great everywhere except near colden lakes they sucked a little

Heading from pendeton to alden hopefully this afternoon before it all gets closed

I think im headed to Springville tomorrow morning, not sure where to drop yet but it looks good for snow out there

@JayS did you end up with a spare chaincase cover by any chance? I uhh…broke mine…

How the hell??? Nut back off and bore a hole in it?

But no, my old one now only has 3 bolt holes instead of 4 since when it grenaded it snapped the bottom one right off. My replacement parts showed up last night but I won’t have time to work on it until Tuesday. :frowning:

@JayS yeah I had the chaincase all buttoned up and set to go when I did work to it in the fall but then decided to swap tracks and had to take it back apart when I put the new track in. Must have forgotten the cotter pin the second time around and didn’t think twice about it because I remembered putting one in the first time. Oh well. I got lucky no other damage aside from chaincase cover, nut threaded right back on. No idea when it happened in my 100miles of shake down riding but glad I decided to give it a quick once over before I headed out to Alden today. Luckily I have a spare Rev that is down getting a new track so I will just steal the cover off that one. (Insert skidoo joke about having a backup sled here)

edit, actually just had it quick fixed

A group of us, including @Shockwave179, had a nice 90 mile ride today from Warsaw. We went up to Attica then down through Strykersville and stopped for a really nice lunch @ Hidden Valley.

One member of our group lost a belt but it was an otherwise relaxing ride. I’m starting to love Wyoming county.

Nice pics. May have to check that area out.

Maybe I will get in to this hobby one day. Seems like fun

We went down to Cherry Creek/Chautaqua on Monday and did 75 miles. Trails were really nice, only a couple water holes as you got closer to Chautaqua Lake.

Also got out yesterday in Pendleton, just went to Kenyons to get gas and then came back. First time my daughter got to ride on the real trails, not just the ones I made in the backyard. Trails were still perfect, hopefully this warm weather and rain didn’t kill everything. My backyard still has snow in it. Just need some cold and a few more inches and it should be great.

Daughter had to get out and be just like daddy.

Oh and I did 50 miles in Old Forge on Wednesday night. Trails were perfect up there.
