Who the hell would ever want an F body? I would much rather drive an econobox. Preferably an early 90’s econobox.
No shit.
You mean to tell me the race car that had a few components added to maintain street legality beat a bunch of street cars? Shocking.
I just saw an interview about the making of this article… they basically engineered the results by running any car they wanted again and again until they got a time they wanted (and conversely by not trying very hard in cars like the M3/4)
lol what?
The article isn’t about track times
you’re right, I’m confusing with another article at VIR… the results look the same.
According to those results Fiesta ST > WRX > GTI.
But according to MotorTrend’s own head2head comparison the WRX > Fiesta ST:
And MotorTrend’s article the GTI > WRX:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/1407_comparison_four_fun_sporty_runabouts_under_30 000/winner.html
So the 10th place GTI is better than the 7th place WRX which is better than the 6th place Fiesta ST, according to MotorTrend.
Valid argument based on the article in question
@theblue could learn something from this
I wonder how much GM paid for 1st place:mpd:
If someone was going to give me the Camaro I’d take it no questions asked. I’m sure it’s a great car to rip around in.
I just can’t imagine going into a dealership and dropping down $75k on one. I’d have to be mega-rich and even then it would have to be about the 100th car I purchased because there would be so many things I would buy before it.
I’m definitely not alone:
I have a really hard time seeing how the Z28 is better than an every option box checked 2015 Stingray.
[edit] FOCUS not Fiesta [/edit] :ham:
So I guess it would be Fiesta ST > STI > GTI > WRX > Focus ST, which would work. :ham:
Good job
$2500 worth of almost race spec tire helped a ton and the Z28 has enough more power to make up for the weight on a wide open track.
When it first came out I was totally with you on the pricing of the car. I thought it was way out of line. When you start to break the cars’ performance down into segments and compare it to what else is out there, it is bargain basement priced. Think about it like this, it can stop from 60mph in around 90 feet. That’s well into 6-figure territory. During development the tires were rotating on the rims during braking. They had to use a special media blasting material to get the tires to bite into the rims and not slip. If you look at the lap times on ANY of the comparisons that have been done and really break the laps down, you’ll see that the Z/28 simple outhandles just about everything. It will be down 8-10mph down the backstretch and 2 corners later it is ahead. It caused many of the hired-gun drivers to rethink their braking strategies, most were braking way too early. It pulled 1.18g’s at one of the racetracks with the 918. Those are world class numbers. The only thing I don’t care for is the engine. I mean, LS7’s are fantastic and all, but they are 8 years old. This isn’t 2006. The chassis is begging for more power, and a 12.3 or 12.4 just doesn’t do the car any justice.
put those tires (~$2500 to replace) in those size on just about anything and it will stop better than on this heavy pig. No question that it’s amazing what they have done with this car… but I can’t help but wish they did the same treatment to a smaller lighter platform.
Manufacturers are free to spec their cars with whatever tire they choose.
What is that saying?
Oh yeah, “Bring slicks not excuses”, in this case it’s Trofeo’s.
all that proves is this car has better tires.
What about the interior quality?
Yeah those spool valve shocks are a waste. Not to mention the carbon ceramic brakes, the 19" wheels that lower the car 3/4", the aero that provides a shitload of downforce, the huge sway bars. All those things are fluff.
It’s all tires on this car!
Put Trofeo’s on a Prius and it would have gone top-5 no doubt.
