Not bad when your 4 seat camaro kills a bunch of ring kings. 7:16 is faster than the 911 GT2 RS. Woot
That’s awesome, wonder if it will take a trackday beating or fall on its face like the C7 z06
Driven by GM engineer Bill Wise, more impressive if he is not even a professional driver.
Man, I’m happy with an 11 minute lap in Forza lol
They have resolved those issues… if you couldn’t tell by the video lol.
One nasty SOB.
Man that guy can drive for an engineer, or anyone for that matter. Sub 70k for that beast?
As stated before all of the heat related tranny issues have been solved. The guy that drove is not Chevy’s regular “ring” driver either. This car is basically a Z06 Corvette that weighs 300lbs more but is $15k cheaper.
EDIT: I have yet to see a ZL1 local, but there are tons of Z06’s around. It seems like every dealer has a few.
You have to remember test engines pretty much live in their car for all development testing. This guy probably has more seat time in this car than most people get in their lives.
The normal ZL1 is a beautiful car, the 1LE kicks it up a notch. Both are amazing cars.
Impressive.
Those tires did not sound like they were having fun, I would love to see them after one hot lap.
7:22… those are some big balls to come into that S that hot.
Exactly what i was thinking. Holy smokes, that cat can drive.
This is making me wonder if GM is sandbagging the Z06. Might be so they can have the ZR1 be faster but it doesn’t make sense to me that the lighter car is slower.
Also remember that a regular GT3 is 7:12 for context.
Also for context: Porsche does not build one lap wonders.
So are you implying Chevy build the Camaro to be a ring one lap wonder? Because that’s pretty laughable. I’d take pretty much any 911 over a Camaro but I have to give GM respect for how fast that thing is.
The first thing I said was impressive.
They built a bunch of cars with crap bearings I know that. Honestly I’m an equal car opportunist, the ZL1 1LE just kills most Porsches, not to say the Porsche is any less cool. I mean the handling and driving characteristics of a 911 are super unique and now slower than a camaro. Enjoy your VW (I’ve secretly always wanted a fast VW, but can’t justify it, plus my wife thinks they are lame.)
saying the characteristics are now slower is not really fair. To be clear, if you shove enough power and tire under anything at the ring you can get good times, that’s all GM did.
When the age old European excuse of, “yeah, but it can’t turn or stop” gets blown away by a Camaro lapping the ring in 7:16 I guess you have to come up with something. “It’s got a lot of motor and tire” is pretty weaksauce though.
At least point out that it’s a $70k Camaro. Can you picture yourself dropping $70k on a Camaro? I can’t. It’s a GM so you’ll probably be able to buy a 2 year old one with 20k miles for $25k though.
The Joe Dirt picture is worth a thousand words.
Edit: I grew up in the 80s, the odds of me ever owning a bitchin Camaro or Vette are very slim.
