As with every vehicle purchase of mine there is a story…so this is no different.
Rewind a few weeks ago, just for kicks, my wife and I were scoping out potential new cars for her at Northtown Volkswagen. Some of you may know that this is a piggyback Toyota and VW dealer. Driving through the lot she was looking at a new Volkswagen Touareg (I guess the correct pronunciation is Twar-egg).
While she is looking it over I spot a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport, Dark Gray, 6 spd…I really liked the truck and had been seriously considering going back to a manual. There was also a pretty sweet Red one there too. I jokingly commented “How funny would it be if I traded in my Tacoma for a new Tacoma.” To my surprise her response was “I think that is a Fucking fantastic idea.” My surprise wasn’t the swearing because anyone that knows her that he could hold her own…no, no. Two brand new vehicles…? Hmm…
As fate would have it the very next week she was caught up in a multicar collision (everyone was ok) on the 190 TOTALLING her Jetta. After the dust settled we found ourselves back at Northtown. After working with one the best group of guys ever she found herself in a '16 VW Passat SE TSI. I must admit it is a VERY nice car.
With her situation squared away I pulled the listing on the Gray Tacoma up on my phone and said “I want to throw something at you…(dropped my phone on the table)…I want to buy this.” Turns out that they actually had just made a dealer sale and swapped a new Tundra that they had sold off the lot from the dealer that took the Tacoma. Fuck.
I was pretty much ready to just chalk it up to bad timing and leave it at that. Then he mentioned they had 2 other ones on the lot. If I wanted to look at them he would get the keys. Well…
Out with the awesome and in with the awesome-er; 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road:

A line of conversation my wife and I would NEVER have.
Hey…I like making my own sammich. That way it gets done right.
Hahaha. I tell you what; that car definitely protected her - Front bumper gone, PASS front fender pushed in 2-3 inches, full Airbag Deployment (curtains too), bent rear subframe, twisted the trunk, raised the passenger side door sill, dimpled the roof…the car only spun. It did not roll.
these are sweet. Also been kicking around the idea of a 2007 and up model. Did you find the rear cramped? I want to be able to occasionally haul people in the back seats (and maybe eventually a car seat)
The Access Cab is too small for Adults. There is definitely enough room for a car seat…or two.
If you want to cart around adults you’ll have to go up to the four door.
I know there are 4-door ones for sale right now but they are newer. Plan on the $15-18k range for a decent one…even 2007. Talk to @Beck. He will hook you up! (Adam - I personally vouch for Norb!)
LOL.

LOL. I know I’ll never get the deal you gave me anywhere else.
I do think that’s a pretty cool looking color. Going to be easy to spot tooling around WS. In the spring, us it to pick up some of these and put in in the background.
