ebay = usa .ca = canada
ebay.ca?
not to rain on your parade, but whoever buys this name better register it as a business anme as well otherwise you’re looking at loosing it.
BTW marcus, did you register as the legal owner of this name?
No one uses ebay.ca and the chances of an interested 240sxer stumbling upon an auction for this name within the 7 days is rare.
Thats incorrect. Why would it have to be registered as a business name. Yes I am the legal owner of the name.
Because if someone registers a company called Nike and some guy has
the domain name nike.com, that guy can sue and get the domain name
farily easily.
Not farily easily. It is a costly process that has to be made by the registrar through ICANN or in this case CIRA. The only issue I would see would be calling the website 240sx.ca instead of Johny’s 240sx Website (www.240sx.ca). I have had this name for about a year with no issues and it would be unlikely that issues will occur.
240sx.ca is no different than son240sx.ca, 240sxforums.com, 240sx.org, or any of the other 100+ domain names with the terms 240sx in it:

Are there Canadian court cases to support this? Most information we have regarding domain names deal with the USA and don’t apply to us.
BTW: I search for stuff on ebay.ca all the time since I can select items located in Canada! Less shipping… or free.
sorry confusing the regulations with the .org.
Here’s how it works:
The Old .CA Rules
Currently, the most restricting factors for registering a .CA name are (1) you have to be a federally incorporated company and (2) only one domain is allowed per company. This prevents many Canadian companies and individuals from obtaining their desired .CA name(s).
The NEW .CA Rules
The current restrictions on .CA names will be relaxed on or about November 1, 2000. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) will allow any Canadian resident or business to register multiple .ca domain names. Rules are on a first come first serve basis and since domain names are unique, thousands of Canadians are rushing to reserve their .CA names before it is taken.
These laws change on a monthly basis so it’s kinda hard to keep up with them.
DRE
The new .ca rules were made in 2000 and continue to be the same. The most enforced rule is that you have to be a canadian resident, business, or have other presence in Canada to have a .ca domain. With a domain such as 240sx.ca, disputes are unlikely to occur. With a domain such as gougle.ca or globalnews.ca, a C&D notice is bound to arrive.
