My 92 240sx is acting up. It started out as I would be driving along and then it would just stall out of nowhere. I would crank the motor over but it wouldnt catch, but if I left it for 5 minutes it would start right up and be good for the rest of the day. But eventually it got to the point where it didn’t matter how long you let it sit it wouldn’t start any more. And now i am at the point where it will start once a day and will idle fine and run fine until after 5 minutes of driving when it is up to temperature it will just stall. If you crank it soon after it stalls it will kind of catch but later on it will not catch at all. It will just crank. I checked for spark and all the wires have spark. And I can hear the fuel pump running in the trunk. Also I pulled the ECU out and checked for codes and it says no malfunction detected. :axe: help!
Oh, and it surges a few times before it stalls.
I am not even close to a expert on these cars. But I would check your ignition coil. Usually what happens is they will be fine at first but as you drive they will heat up and fail. If you leave it for about 5-10 mins the car will re fire and run for a while tell it heats up again. I am pretty sure you guys run on a distributor with a single coil correct ? The ignitor chip may also be to blame, does your tac jump around a bit when it starts to act up ?
does the car make any noise while your trying to turn it over? a clicking noise or something?
No it just cranks over normally, no noises or anything. And I changed the coil and it still did it. But i think i fixed it…the fuel pump would sometimes pump and then it would just cut out and not pump anymore. My electric fan was hooked up through the fuel pump fuse and was shutting it off or something. So i rerouted the wires from the fan and it is running good for now anyways.
