240sx runs until warm dies then restarts ok after cooling

Posting for a non-internet savy friend…

He’s got an 89 240sx, black top non turbo. It starts up ok runs until up to temp then quits, he lets it cool and it starts up ok again until it gets warm again.

I’m just trying to give him some suggestions over the phone since I cant see it in person. Any general ideas on where to start from the 240 experts would be cool.

Thanks

LOL so basically a ka24?

^Unless he means SR20DE. Which seems a little stupid, because it’s a smaller, less powerful engine unless it’s got a snail :frustrated

B-Wurm

Yeah I am guessing so

how does it die too much fuel? try unpluging his temp sensor

if everything runs fine and it only happens once it reaches temp then i would agree with nismo some stupid sensor is messed and giving the ecu the wrong info and causing the stall … im guessing im not a guru on 240 but thats what i think

Thanks for the recommendations, just waiting for him to try out a few things, sure would make it easier if the car wasn’t 8hrs North of me!

Does the 240 have a PTU like/similar to the z32? I just went through a very similar problem with my Z and it was the Power Transistor causing such a weird intermittent fault it was tough to troubleshoot.

no traction control. I would also try doing diagnose mode to make sure ur maf /02 is functioning as supose too. Any vacum leaks? My ka would start run at warm up mode for 1- 2 minutes and just shut off if i keep it reved above 1000rpm it stay sa live and never shuts off, ended up being wacky maf

its a temp sensor. Take it out and cheak resistance in cold water. Then throw it in hot water and cheak the resistance again and you will see if its bad or not. Let us know nigga!

Thanks …

Whats the resistance at normal operating temp? I could get him to just bridge the circuit with a resistor to see if it stays running or restarts when its at temp.

UNPLUG IT SEE WHAT HAPPENS .GO FROM THERE. New one is only 20-30$ anyway so might just want to replace it anyway

Hard to say without being there, but I’d look first at the coolant temperature sensor, and next at the MAF.

sound really a hard fix on the car hope its working now.
