240sx stupid brakes question

I have a kind of stupid question about 240sx brakes.

Well before this car I drove a 2000 MBZ C Class, and my sisters car 95 Ford Contour.

I’m guessing the power braking system on both cars is pretty good because it’s easy to push the brakes, especailly on the C Class I can slam on the brakes without having to apply that much force. It’s really easy to drive…

Now, on my 240sx, and also on my freind’s Supra that I drove (it was a 1991), the brakes are MUCH harder to press. And I haven’t had to “slam” on my brakes, but to even brake moderantely I have to be pushing pretty hard. So I’m not even sure how good they would be if I had to slam them on.

SO my qeustion is basically this:

Are the brakes on the 240/Supra harder to press than the MBZ because:

  1. The power braking system isn’t as “power” as the MBZ because it’s a sporty car, but the brakes are good they just have to be pushed very hard to stop fast.

  2. The power braking system isn’t as “power” as the MBZ because it’s old.

  3. The brakes are like that cause the MBZ has way better brakes.

Thanks.

Well I would hope the brakes on a Benz would be better than on a 240  I’ve been told that the ABS systems on older 240’s are scarey because they are older tech.

PS. There is no such thing as a stupid question…

My guess is it would have something to do with the size and design of the master cylinder and/or brake booster, and possibly the brake lines too.

Odly enough, my 1990 oldsmobile is the same… you have to use alot of force when pressing the brake. however my friends buick (of the same year, basicaly the same car) does not have to push very hard.

ok guys were comparing a high tech mbz with idividual caliper boosters, multiple piston calipers, german engineered system, with a 15 year old sports car that weighs half the weight of a mercedes, now… yes mbz brakes are better no doubt… 300zx brake swap! be careful though, its gonna be a bit too easy to lock up hehe

i kinda like my brakes hard to use, its good for racing purposes, its easier to sense the lock up point (no abs for life yo) and brake through corners at almost understeer conditions and feel your wheel chirp and then just slam the gas as your 1/3 of the way through the corner feeling your frnot wheels free up and ram forward, it all depends on how you drive your car and heavy of a foot you have, for daily driving, its not too good, especiallyw hen ur tired lol

i think for anyone here it will be difficult to properly answer your question because our experiences with how “hard” it should be to push the pedal will be different than yours.

What you should do is just go for a drive on a private country road late at night, look around make sure you dont see any headlights and step on 'em.

If they lock up or ABS kicks in, you’re doing good enough to drive around safely.

Different setups will affect how hard the pedal feels, and if you’ve got air in the lines it will feel squishy and not work very well. You may need to get them bled.

Just see if you can lock em up, if so – worst case is you’re brakes could use work but at least they’re safe.

I’ve never driven a benz, but the 4 corner Z32 set-up was sweet… add SS lines and it should be more than you could ever need.

stock brakes however suck… keeps the maintence departments open = $

Also MB knows serious braking, AMG SL55 is what 8 piston Front 4 rear…2006… quality is first with MB…

No, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots

To answer the q - All cars are different, hence different feeling brakes.

Rejoice.
