$30,000 to spend what car would you get ?

The link I posted was for an '04 CV, using the '08 rating methods. The new ratings have proven very accurate. Sure, there’s ways to beat it by a few MPG by totally changing your driving style… but not by 13 MPG when the rating is only 17 in the first place.

Isnt it sweet how GM’s hold their value???

:frowning:
the main thing i like is i can get an extended warrenty w/ the gto and most stuff i can fix myself. Or have it towed to JJ’s. Im pissed i didnt get an extended warrenty on the gtp.

how about a 06 maxima, the 07’s don’t have a stick anymore. great engine, ton of aftermarket support for it since its the same as the 350z. and they are nice looking cars. get one used for around 23-24k, add i/h/e, and have a pretty fast and nice car.

Mazdaspeed 3 for the win with 10k to spare… http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/car/519681153.html

$30k?

Probably a slightly used Lexus. Pimpness of a BMW or Merc with the reliability of a Toyota.

They must not be very accurate then.

Maybe the cv they used had the 355 gears or something. My 2.73 gears and fully loaded truck with 3 suitcases, toys for the beach, box fan, 2 pedal bikes, etc… got 29mpg. I set the cruise on 70 and just left it there the majority of the way. I drove a little faster on the way home and it got about 26mpg. Think whatever you want, I know how to calculate gas mileage and know what my car got.

and BTW, that link you posted had the fuel type being used as CNG. I bet the gas mileage of “gas” is better than “Natural Gas”.

you are forgettin that the gas mileage standards are chaning all the time and they have to meet them. they also use different computer systems. odb1 and 2. so they aren’t infact unchanged in that time period.

" the Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victoria, were curvaceously reshaped for the 1992 model year. In addition to getting new skin, the Grand Marquis was now powered by Ford’s 4.6-liter overhead-cam V8. It provided 190 horsepower, pumped to 210 with the optional dual-exhaust system" so the 4.6 was 190 hp in 92…and stayed like that for a few years…

I have an idea, let’s argue about the gas mileage of mid 90’s cop cars.

Seriously.

I knew they still made them for Police/Taxi service, but not for civilian service. Kinda stupid. If they still build them, than why not sell them? You could be right about requesting one, though.

That’s what I did… though these days every aznrady in town has an IS, so I’m not sure how much “pimpness” I get from my IS250. But that’s not really why I bought it.

PS- Crown Vics don’t get 30MPG. :offtopic:

EDIT: To get this thread back on track, here’s some ideas (I had to expand my searches past PGH since it seems your town has an alarming lack of nice cars)…

Low mileage '05 CTS-V - Should still have lots of warranty, LS6, I like the looks but some hate it, overall a pretty fun/nice car. That being said I was looking to trade my IS on one locally out here, but dropped the idea after test driving it. I think the Lexus interior has spoiled me, and I drive my housemate’s E39 M5 all the time and the CTS-V just didn’t measure up in some intangible way. But my housemate paid something like $43k OTD for his ’03 (I think it’s a ’03, whatever the last year for the E39 M5 was) with 40k miles on it. So I suppose it’s not really a fair comparison.

E46 M3 – Amazing driver’s car. Great balance, sublime steering feel. On the downside, no torque and not really a ton of power. I hate the way they sound (especially w/ aftermarket catbacks) but that’s subjective. And there are serious quality concerns so you’d better get an ub3r extended warranty (I believe you can still buy used car warranties through a lot of financing companies when you buy private party). They’re known for the doors becoming miss-aligned and then not opening. And the rear subframes like to pull-out from the unibody (though that’s more of a non-M problem since the M’s have more bracing I believe). If you think seriously about any BMW you should take it to a BMW specialist that knows what to look for in these cars.

Okay, I’m not really suggesting this… just shits ‘n giggles. Gen Is have a lot of issues and obviously this is a garage-queen weekend only sunny day car.

Again, not sure I’d actually recommend this. I would never, ever, ever own a Merc w/o warranty coverage. And it’s the older body and NA motor. But there’s still some fun/pimp factor here.

AWD practicality, fun/fast, pimp factor. Maybe another maintenance nightmare though?

Serious pimp factor but HUGE maintenance nightmare, yet another in the “only if you can afford to extend the warranty waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out on it” type of car.

I really like G35s, my old housemate had one and I drove it a ton, including a couple long road trips (Vegas, LA etc). Relatively fun and fast (though not exceptionally so in either case) and very comfortable/classy.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/514187786.html
I actually really, really, really like these cars. And again, AWD practicality.

Ruh-roh-eve-ohhhhhh but I think you ruled those out already.

Baller, but I never liked the looks of the new 5, and IDrive FTL.

If you have a “inny” where you should have a penis, no taste, and need to think you look cool.

I intentionally left out any ‘vettes since I’ve already beaten that horse to death… but of course you can go back to the post I made a page or two back and there’s plenty out there.

30mpg is reserved for hybrids old diesels and 4cylinders, i would pay to see a stock crown vic get 30mpg

give me some money

dude your crown vic is not getting 30 Mpg even with a 35mph tail wind.

next time you go to fill up let her run to almost fumes…reset your trip meter, take a picture of this…fill her up till the pump cuts off, take a picture of the gallons filled, run her to fumes again, and show us your trip meter.

I filled it up at the sheetz by bowser on 51, went from there down 51-40-68-etc… on my way to obx. When I got to 1/4 tank, I filled it up again and noted gallons uses and mileage. I do not have to prove to any of you guys the gas mileage of my car. I know how much it gets and I am very happy with it. You can either trust me or not, I could care less.

I am looking to sell my 2000 altima and getting another vic for my work car. I drove the vic for a few weeks and got about the same mileage as my altima did.

your statement is useless without proof. it’s not that i don’t believe you…it just sounds a bit far fetched. On a side note…what year is your crown vic? and whats in it…the 4.6?

OK

Anyone can take a pic and add gas to make it how they want. Even pics is useless.

My parents rented a 06 grand prix last year to go to dayton, OH for the air force museum. We followed in my crown vic. We both figured out gas mileage and my vic got 3 mpg better than the grand prix. I am surprised at the mileage also, but after looking at a few crown vic message boards, it seems to be pretty common. And yes, there are message boards for the crown vic. :D:D:D
