… Problems.
If the oil pump was changed then it was probably as a requirement and not regular maintenance. That means the engine was starved for oil because of a faulty oil pump. Running an engine for longer than startup time without the proper oil pressure is enough to score metal to metal parts permanently.
If you are planning on swapping this engine, then assuming the frame is straight you may have something good.
As a side note, whenever a seller willingly tells me the oil pump has been changed that means the engine has had problems. It is common to change it as a regular maintenance item but the owner will say, “Maintenance items changed,” instead.
In this case, considering the valve tick is there after YOU KNOW the oil pump was changed and may have had problems, you can almost expect that the engine is in bad condition.
If you were already planning on swapping out the old block and the car is in great shape aside from the engine and trans and I mean spotless and no rust. I think $6000 is fair asking. Mind you in my mind $6000 for a shell is rather high.
i mean the car runs good, but it was just the tick that was bothering me. i would probably drive it like that till the engine goes. then do the swap. or when i find a place to buy a front clip. which ever comes first.
^^^ Took the words right out of my mouth, though for an extremely low KM shell $6000 may be a good price. In this case a shell with that many KMs on it will probably go for around $4000.
Make sure there’s absolutely no rust.
Common for 300 --> at the end of the frame rail closest to the engine where the chassis leg meets the frame rail. This is on the frame rail about where your feet rest. The thicker metal for the chassis leg overlaps the frame rail itself. That’s also where the water tends to run down and come to rest.
This is actually a common rust spot for most Nissans, if not all.
I can’t tell you if you should stay away from the car unless I see it.
