Finally got my hands on a 350 and have no idea what mods work and what mods don't. It's a 2004 performance that I got state side. The only thing I know is that the tires absoulty suck... My only mod so far is a Nismo cold air intake. I'm totally new to the world of tuning. I'm living in Newmarket and don't even know where a decent shop is yet alone a DYNO... HELP!!!
Parts… Well, I guess I’de like to make it breath a little better. I was thinking a Kenitex plenum, Nismo cat back, and some headers. Not sure what headers to get. And of corse some rims and rubber. Is Nismo all it’s cracked up to be?
Hey man,
First off welcome, and congrats on the purchase!:R
The best “start off” mods would be plenum spacers and an upgraded exhaust.
Go with the Motordyne 5/16th or AAM angled spacer, stay away from the kinetix.
All the aftermarket exhausts for the 350z put out the same amount of HP on N/A applications so go with one you like (sound wise). Nismo would be a great choice, IMO it really brings out the unique note of the VQ.
You may also want to ditch the nismo CAI, and go with either a short ram intake (JWT Popcharger) or if your worried about heat soak, get a '06 stock air box.
I was going to go with headers myself, but after a long time contemplating the upgrade, it just did not seem worth it.
For real power gains you are going to have to go the FI route (Supercharger, Single Turbo or Twin Turbo), which is big money.
As david mentioned you may want to join up on My350z.com, as its a honey hole of information. Just be careful of what you post, they tend to bite on new members who dont use the search button. Make sure you check out the Canada/East Regional section for our meet up posts.
welcome … as everyone has said, easiest (and relatively cheapest) mods would be going n/a with intake, exhaust, header, plenum, and maybe pulley’s. just don’t expect big power gains, all of those mods will basically make your z sound nicer and pull a tad harder on the top end.
or you could do what church did and put on mods that DECREASED the performance of his z … apparently it’s a new fad now :hmm
