no they happen from left to right at the same time after P and E.
haha… we are taught these things by people who read and studied others interpretations of it as well. Remember that.
I’m gonna say that it all comes down to context and what makes sense for the situation. Math can be a non real application but honestly, its meant for real world applications and always has some meaning. So if you get a huge number for something you should, then more than likely its meant to be there, or vise versa for a small number.
And Nick… no I meant it like this PE M/D A/S
^Gotcha.
exactly some calculators are programmed in this order:
parenthasis
exponents
implied multiplication
explicit multiplication
division
addition
subtraction
this is because many people write in this way and/or were taught this way.
if x=10
1÷2x=?
haha… cut it out. I’ll save my math knowledge for real world apps. At least derivatives have a point.
its not about the math, its more so about how people were taught and think.
I found many people who said the answer was 288 then answered 1/20 to that problem. where once they were very adamant about following the order of operation, they quickly abandoned it later for implied multiplication coming before explicit.
I never used a calculator in math unless I really needed it so its good to see I saved myself from some calc BS in the past by doing the work by hand.
I would have said 5. For the record. I see your point.
what the fuck is going on in this thread
Well this blew up :lol
its 288, like obviously…
PEMDAS OR BUST
and vlad, how u came up with 2 followed by a “if the correct order is used” type answer is beyond me
48÷X(9+3)=288
Find X
yea x is 2 but the answer of 288 u tried to say was 2
I’m going to say 2 because in reality the equation is:
Thats my story and I’m sticking to it…
so what does pemdas mean to you if you think 2 is the answer?
my calculator reads 288
what do i win?
I still get 288…
