It was already fast. Not stupid fast but quick enough.
17k for a MOTOR?!?!?
Yowza
I’m sorta surprised that oil pump didn’t explode from the metal frag in it. At least the bearings/journals look pretty good
Stay on it man!
Gotta or I’m walkin.
Who stopped by from the shop? Kevin or was it the short old guy who will blow your mind with his knowledge about engine heads
+1
Insane.
Kevin
Sorry, I found a “deal” on one. The first price was a catalog price for a new one from Ford. Not sure if this one is apples to apples. Might even be reman.
Flying together. You’ll be happy you changed all the little stuff. Do it now, or do it later
That’s pretty much the thought process. When all done this will end up being a “new” motor with the weaknesses from the original design addressed. Only weak point that cannot be corrected is the one that started this…the lifters.
at $12.00 a pop they’re cheap insurance against this happening again. Is there an “upgraded” set? or just throwing in OEM replacements?
Roller lifters are usually pretty stout, something like this really shouldn’t happen too often.
he should be fine with OEM replacements
OEM replacements. No knowledge of anything upgraded available.
roll coal
I know at least one cylinder that will be back to producing 100%.
Seems like a huge project, good for you.
Everyone I know with a diesel over like 70,000 miles has always had to do a lot of work, all of the big 3. I have looked at a few used ones again in the less than 75K mile range, which is according to every ad and forum not even broken in lol, they all have a list of parts that were replace that are enourmous to me, all sorts of stuff big and small.
But I guess I expect vehicles to last 100k mile without needing anything other than oil and brakes.
Sucks most of the motor was taken out…
If it makes you feel any better we have 3 6.0’s here at work, one with 320k, the others with low 200k on them, all on the original engine, and have very few problems. They are beaten daily towing 15k+ or loaded down. The old 7.3 in the yard has almost 400k on it… still in service.
I’d like to think I can achieve those kinds of numbers…as long as another lifter doesn’t fail. I like to think I don’t abuse mine and then hear stories like yours and it makes me feel so much better.
Keep at it replace all the little stuff and then enjoy it for another 200k. Looking at new anything is out of control money, I’d rather spend some money and fix up something a bit older. When its all back together you will be really happy im sure.
