ALBANY — Two large shipments of beer were stolen during the holiday period, police officials say.
Both Dougherty County and Albany police filed theft reports in reference to large amounts of beer being stolen sometime between Dec. 21 and Thursday, reports show.
The largest theft of the two was reported in the county, where a man told police that someone stole a 53-foot-long trailer loaded with more than 2,300 cases of beer.
According to reports filed with Dougherty County police, Loren Lentz said that sometime between Dec. 21 and Thursday a 2004 Hyundai semi-trailer was taken from the 600 block of McCollum Road.
The trailer contained several kinds of Miller brand beer, the report shows.
In another incident, Don Wilson of Miller Brewing told police that more than 300 cases of beer valued at $6,000 were swiped after a beer-laden tractor-trailer was stolen, reports show.
Wilson told police that the beer was discovered to be missing around 7 p.m. on Dec. 21, reports show.
The tractor — which Wilson said had a tracking device — was hooked to trailer No. 4219, which was driven 3.2 miles southwest of the pickup location on the 400 block of Cordele Road, the report says.
Wilson told the police he believes that’s where the beer was off-loaded, according to the report.
