69 Camaro resto - It's ALIVE! - no 56k

I have owned the car for 14 years. I took it off the road 7 years ago to do some work on it and got sick. The bills started piling up and it wasn’t a priority <shock> (At least I didn’t sell it). Then I met my future wife, bought a house, got married, worked on mt house, etc.

My wife made the comment that she NEVER sat in my car. I said, well, I don’t have enough to restore it. I said I have been prioritizing my house and family before the car. She said, well, you know the money in a certain bank account, use it in addition to the money I have been saving…

So 2 days later started the restoration. I have been thinking of how I wanted to build the car for 7 years now and since I have the money, I’m doing it as I have wanted to do.

As for the motor. I could have kept the 302, but I wanted to have some more fun. So the new motor isn’t only fast, but for show. A little different from what it was last. And originality of the car means nothing to me since it used to be a 6 cylinder Camaro.

I’ve been secretive about the motor for a while now since I’ve been getting so much hell for not having my car out in a long time. That’s part of my fun.

Is your uncle’s camaro local? Pics?

Haha.
She kows how much of my personality is tied in with my hobby/side business.

The other day I finished assembling the interior and brought out the passenger seat into the driveway. I called her outside and said, here, sit.

I said, now you can’t say that you haven’t ever sat in my car.

I put power steering in it so that if she ever does want to drive it (with me in in the car) she can with ease.

I told her that I’ll get her either a 64.5 to 66 Mustang ragtop, a 70 Vette ragtop, or a Saturn Sky in the future. She doesn’t get into the show/hobby, but she supports me and my show and websites, which is cool. But she used to drive her dad’s 70 Vette vert and drove it like she stole it. She’s got a big time lead foot, which might mean I have to hide the keys to my Camaro

damnnn dog. its startin to look pretty sick. ill trade u a turbo ls1…lol.

damn what i would give for that car with my drivetrain and new suspension etc…

i got a better idea…instead of hiding the keys…keep the keys in the open, just hide the car…in my garage LOL.

I think you should keep the 302 badges no matter what…its fun to fu©k with people.

My uncle’s car is around my home (Jamestown area). I don’t have any photos of it…he’s been restoring it for…probably 7+ years. Maybe more. I’m not really sure.

Here’s the closest I have. It’s like quadruple covered, with soft blankets, a car cover and then the top plastic layer.

Mike’s car up front, Camaro in the background…

Already decided on that. 302 badges stay on. For now though.

Sneak over there and pull off the covers

Soon…soon. Red with black stripes, non-RS option (as I understand it, that means no chrome on the side accents and probably a few other things).

I need to check your car out when it’s done. The '69 body style is probably my favorite ever, and yours is looking awesome.

Looks good. Ive been lucking in the thread, my 1stgen is stiiting in parts. im lazy:rolljerk:

only pic I have of brent strongs uncles Z

Sitting in parts… :frowning:
Get moving on it!

As for a reply to the RS Brent_Strong…
It means Rally Sport. It included some extra trim package including the hideaway headlights and reverse lights in the lower valence. Makes the 69 look sweet. I might get the kit for mine eventually.

This is a Rally Sport grill

ugh, this is going to be one hot car when its all complete! i can’t wait to see it, once again , i love all the updates

It most likely comes home this week. The motor is probably going in on Tuesday. Been kinda slow on that end. But most of the trim is on the car. Some pictures will be up later. It won’t be running for a little while, but it’s killing me.

Once it gets home I have a lot of detail work to do and then lastly the interior gets installed.

is the frame different on the car from the straight 6 to the v8 models?

say i found a straight six, and want to swap it out, am i at any loss.

i may of found a 69 finally

i doubt it…it wouldnt make sense profit wise with manufacturing costs…

Nope.Same frame. And send me some pics, details…
There have been a few on ebay, that are ok, but none that really stand out above the crowd for a resto.

I like the non RS a lot better now that I’ve seen them side to side. I didn’t know the grille was different, I just knew of some of the trim changes. This thread is really making me wish I had an old muscle car again!

Haha. Get one, all the cool kids are doing it
TrueBlue is looking for a classic Mustang and Bhevy Chase is looking for a Camaro.

There is a lot more of the younger guys getting into the classics. They don’t have to be slow anymore. Customize the hell out of them, modernize the ride and handling, and big ass motors.

Plus the ladies love them  Plus you can get a classic car in driver condition for cheap prices. They go up in price if they are restored or rare optioned cars. Look for a decent shape 6 cylinder or unrestored car and do the work as time and money allows.

I’ve had my 69 Camaro for 14 years now. It was off the road fo rthe last 7. Fun car, easy to work on, and replacement parts are cheap to restore it. The only downfall is some of the OER replacement parts fit for shit. I bought all new Z/28 emblems and ended up using my NOS set since the new ones didn’t fit and honestly were crappy built. My door handle had a 3/4" longer than needed piece. It had to be trimmed down to work. Sure it looks nice, but fit and finish sucks on some repro parts. But you learn to make them work

Some more pictures added.

Headliner is in. Front bumper is painted and installed.
Engine should be going in on Tuesday and possibly heading home to my garage this week.

It has the enduro-like fiberglass bumper. I like the monochromatic look of it. It was like that when I bought the car.

with that front bumper being blue…im not sure about the back bumper being chrome…maybe i just need to see a whole good shot of the car when its together to get the “vision”

also…the hood emblem…i think i would of left if it off…not sure i like the overlap of the stripe…lol
listen to me here…like your building the car for me he he…seriously…the car is going to be sick!! great work so far!!

looks great  hopefully by the time its all set you still get some decent weather to log a few miles on it before the real cold weather and snow comes in!
