What idiot allows an 8 year old to fire an automatic weapon? Are you fucking serious? 8 year olds can barely swing a baseball bat let alone handle an Uzi.
While I understand its legal to fire a firearm with parental permission, common sense should have told the parent and the gun owner that this would not be safe.
The sad thing is that teh father is some director at a hospital… so its not like he is some dumb redneck… can you think the mother will ever forgive the father for this?
This is no “accident”. This is just stupidity, plain and simple. The father, director of the ER at a local hospital (which means he shouldn’t be an idiot, and has seen gun shot wounds first hand), the range officer, whom should be trained in firearm safety, and the range director, whom should always be looking out to minimize range liability - they were all present. Not one of them said, “Hey, maybe letting a child shoot a gun that has enough recoil to get out of control is a bad idea.” Anyone that has fired an automatic firearm will tell you that the muzzle climbs as you fire it. Anyone on that firing line had to know it (except for the child). This sort of thing really angers me, because it gives anti gun nuts something to harp about.
I was around 10 I think when I got to fire a .22 rifle for the first time. I can’t imagine shooting a handgun, let alone hard to handle handgun, LET ALONE a fully automatic, hard to handle handgun when I was 8! Father is a retard. Poor kid.
Safe environment? They were at a gun show/range/expo whatever.
While i do agree that it was beyond stupid i dont agree the father was a dumb ass. Careless, and uneducated about the dangers of firearm misuse? Damn skippy.
Having lived most of my younger years with a father who’s hobby was firearms I have fired quite a few. If memory serves I fired my first .22 at 7 and it all went up in size from there.
Uzis, if it is an actual Uzi, have notoriously bad bouts of barrel climb, especially in the snub barrel versions. High cyclic rate + short weapon + midmounted pistol grip x 8 y/o boy…
