No spark on each cylinder, just wanted to know if these cars have a external ignition module.
^^^ Yes. It is referred to as the PTU (Power Transister Unit) by many Z32 tuners. If the car is unmodified, it is located on the front of the timing cover on the right side of the engine. (On the side accross from the Circular metal sensor called the CAS)
When people move the PTU they usually relocate it underneath the centre nose panel between the lights. That is the most common modification on the Z32 actually.
This car is a JDM, is there any other PTU that will work in this car? meaning out of a USDM vehicle.
Yes. All PTUs will work from the USDM cars on the JDM ones.
The newer styled PTU (without fins) will need an adapter harness to mate to your JDM vehicles harness.
I changed the PTU to the newer style with harness and still getting no spark. Is there anything else I can check?
Well, tell us what you’ve done so far. What basic automotive checks have you done for spark?
First thing’s first, when diagnosing lack of spark it is commonly from one of three things.
- Corroded Contacts on the PTU and/or CAS
- PTU Faulty
- CAS (Crank Angle Sensor) Faulty. It is located on the top of the timing cover at the front left side of the engine. Circular aluminum piece with a connector around the 3o’clock side
To really get more info you’d need to tell us all of what you’ve done.
Follow up to the new thread that you started: http://torontonissan.ca/forums/showthread.php?threadid=4364
Have you tried the things I’ve recommended last? I suppose you’ve done 1 and 2 but have you done 3 (CAS)
Again, please tell us all that you’ve done to this car.
Thanks,
Patrick
