Great project! Turning out really good. Should scream when its all done.
Anyone have buffing experience? My clear paint pen was a joke i’m not sure what happend but I had to wetsand the edges down and redo the paint on the edges. So i have about .5-1" of wetsanding marks from 1500-2000 grit. I tried to buff them out, but it’s not coming out great. I can still see a lot of scratches.
For what it’s worth I painted them black and it does look much better than the silver, but I have to try and fix these scratches before I do anything.
This project has been going on for so long haha, the hot pink reminds me of my ex girlfriend. Before the car was painted at all she was trying to covince to paint ‘the hunk of metal’ sparkly hot pink.
Looks great. Dont like heat in the engine bay so i mounted my turbos out the car
I was going to just mount the turbo in mid air with a big ass hole in the hood. At first that seemed like the only place i’d have room to put it.
Anyone know what rubbing compunds to use? I have 3m part 3900 and it’s just not cutting hard enough to get the big scratches out. I’ve given up on the hood and started working on the rear end.
got good bit welded up today. hoping to finish yoru parts tomo morning.
Awesome. PM me when you’re done, and what I owe you. I have a pacakage to pick up tuesday or wed. out your way from UPS, so Ill just plan on gettin both the same day.
Finished up my rear end. Here’s the front part I made that is taking place of the torque arm. Almost looks like I knew what I was doing.
This is after… 10 hours of wiring and everything being ‘cleaned up’ and bound together if possible.
Hood… I need to get another buffing compound for bigger scratches. The only one I buffed was the bottom right one, doesnt look bad in the pic but it’s still not acceptable.
if compound isn’t taking your scratches out, the next best thing is to wetsand and rebuff, that should take most, if not all of the scratches out if they aren’t fully through to the basecoat
I got a co-workers buffer today. I just have a drill buffer; its one of the only things I don’t have. So i’m going to give it a go with that and see where it gets me.
I’m also considering painting the vents the same color to make it even less noticeable. I really feel guilty about killing the stock hood haha…
Getting closer…
looking sickkkk
woot looking good
congrats on progress
Looking really good!
sweet…keep it up !
are you going to have any problems running the coolant hose, cant really see how much room there is in the pics?
I will have problems… like everything else I’ve had to fit.
The one wastegate is 1/16th inch from the radiator, the other is 1/16th from the fan. The exhaust is 1/8" from the main frame rail. I’ve had to notch the hood in three different places. I’ve cut the front brace, cut a ~50 wire front harness in half, removed a lot, extended it by a foot and relocated it. Cut the bumper shroud. Remove a fuse box and relocate the fuses. Cut out all the old radiator mounts. I’m sure there’s more… but thats all crap i’ve done just to fit stuff.
Right now i’m kind of pissed off at driveshaft shop, their stub axles they sent me are wrong. One the splines are cut long enough, the other the notch in the splines for the snap ring isn’t even close to being in the right location.
Can’t really tell, but the paint around the edges isn’t great. I end up JB welding the vents in. I was going to use double sided tape incase adjustments or painting needed to happen again, however the tape wouldn’t hold to the countour of the hood.
Headers I made, Jeff @ 1st try tig’ed them. Came out good. I’m wrapping them with DEI titanium.
Start of the fuel system, dual walbros. -8 feed, -6 return.
I needed longer plug wires due to the routing of the headers. I end up just moving the coil packs under the fenders… last place I have room.
Since the coilpacks weren’t going to be there I painted the valve covers. I was going to go with the color of my car, but I figured you can’t really screw up going with black.
