wow…thats awesome

drool

outstanding project.

w3rd.

It’s actually progressing very quickly as far as hours into the swap goes. It’s just that the car is in his parents’ airplane hanger in his home town and he’s away at school. He only gets to wrench on it on holidays and such.

Damn, wish the engine was that much in the open on my car! Damn F-bodies are a bitch to work on!

Sweet idea!! Any mods done to that LS1?

It’s a mostly stock '00 w/ about 60k on it. Right now the only mods are a LS6 intake and a shorty headers.

When he’s all done the car has to go to a smog referee so it can get titled legally here in Cali. The rules of motor swapping out here are basically 1) the motor must come from a newer model year vehicle 2) the motor must come from a vehicle in the same weight class (ie no heavy duty truck motors, all passenger cars and ‘light trucks’ are fair game) 3) all of the original emisions/smog equipment original to the new motor must be retained.

He’s using a PCM (and therefore VIN) from a '01 so he can use the LS6 intake and eliminate the EGR legally. The shorty headers carry a CARB EO # so they are fully legal when combined w/ stock cats & all 4 O2 sensors like he’s doing. He may do a very small cam (which isn’t technically legal, but he’ll go small enough it’s not too noticable and will still pass the sniffer) though. All in all he’s looking for about 350 RWHP in a 2800# car. Oh, and he’s going to do a TNT wet kit after the smog referee is done.

Yeah, it’s sad but it looks like plug changes (or just about any work) will be easier on it! Although everything isn’t back in the engine compartment yet. You also have to consider he’s running no power steering and no AC so that helps clean things up too. But really it looks more at home there than the 13B did!
