I have a 96 Intrepid with a transmission that is slipping; everytime i come to a stop the transmission will “slip” occassionaly; is there anything i can go about to rectify the situation?
i want to catch the problem before it gets worse; i already added lube guard to the transmission fluid and it helped; but only slightly.
please comment or PM and let me know if there is anything else i can do.
Have you done a complete fluid flush? Your valve body might need to be replaced too? Typically once a transmission starts to slip, it’s not that far from going completely…
I have had tranny problems on my cars before. A power purge/fluid flush would in my opinion be your only fix. I have learned the hard way not fuck around with my tranny. I take all my tranny work the AAMCO. The guy Dan or Dave on Unioun Rd. is pretty honest. I can tell you that the power purge there will cost you $150. Also it would probally be a good idea to just stop by or give him a call, and ask him what he thinks. They also charge nothing to diagnose your car. If you do go there check there website first they always have cupons right on the site.
:word:
yeah, when i used to work at valvoline, customers would ask about the flush with autos with over 100K never flushed before and we’d be like oh hell no, unless you want it to slip like crazy on the way out of here
just go with a filter change if the fluid’s crazy old or it’s never been done before
these trannys are a known PITA, there is a very common problem with them that often goes overlooked though and you may be able to take car of it with a simple can of liquid wrench. what it is, it there are two linkages on the top of the tranny, under your airbox, one where a cable comes through the firewall and attaches, and the other has a cable that runs down from the throttlebody, THIS is the one that causes this problem you are experiencing. this is called the DETENT, it is what makes the tranny shift/downshift smoothly and often times gets “dry” causing hard shifting when rolling up to stoplights/signs or similar situations of low-speed downshifting. all you have to do is spray the absolute crap outta the DETENT shaft and make sure it is free to move smoothly. then reset your computer by disconnecting the battery while you finish your beer. if you would like me to send you a copy of the page out of the CHILTONS manual PM me your email address and ill scan in the page for ya.
