i had a modified 99 gt, and was going for the turbo they made for it when my tranny went. now i have 04 se-r. i want to get another grand prix(97-02). i was wondering, would the 3.8 turbo from the grand national drop in pretty easy? i want to make it a drag car, and i know the support of the 3.8 for the grand national is huge. or would it be cheaper and easier to install the turbo made for the grand prix?
it depends on what you really want…it’d be way easier to just turbo the engine that’s in it. with a cam,IC, headers and slicks you could easily be in the 11s.
don’t forget about our glass trannys though…a full race build will cost around 3 grand
i want to get one into the 11’s or maybe the 10’s. if i added a turbo, catback, headers, cams, cai, and the intercooler, i think i could hit that mark. i seen a dyno sheet on a 02 gt with a turbo and intercooler that hit over 600hp. but i don’t want to spend over $5000.00 on upgrades, so ill have to see what i can do.
if you can weld you could probably be able to make a cheap custom setup and run good times. It’s gonna be a shit ton of work too
not spendin over 5g’s is gonna be tough if you figure 3k for a turbo kit, 1k for IC and a grand left for a cam/tuner.
stock trans won’t take too many track passes at that power but lemme know what you wanna do…be glad to help and fill you in on some stuff
stock trans is definately junk
A GN motor was put in only one GT b4,and it cost well over 50,000 to it correctly and sold for 75,000. Ur estimate of 5,000 is off baout 3,000 if u wan to hit 11,s. Check out clubgp’s turbo section and u will find aloooooooooooooot of info on it.
check out the section on club gp like devin said!!! or you could just buy both??
thanks guys, ill check out the links.
