A BMW Forum find: Detailing no-no's

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=75987

this for the hood and trunk as I had some swirls…3M foam pad will not burn the paint when using a buffer! Different technology fellas…thank God…

right

But, you can buy a cheap buffer for $79 bucks…if it is NOT a 1400 rpm buffer or faster…it’s only good for putting on wax faster. Most good buffers spin at 3000 rmp like the Dewalt…but 1400 rpm is what you use for these GLAZES…

1400 would be at the upper limit of rotary polishing for paint.

Your problem is that you used a “random orbital” buffer…like I SAID!!! that is only good for putting on wax! That Porter Cable crap is for the man of the home to save time putting on wax. The HIGH SPEED professional buffer cuts way faster…for 89 bucks more than Porter Cable, you could have saved 4 hours! get a man’s buffer…you will use it for the rest of your life! Well worth the money…it’s all about the RPM and heat! The Swirl remover has NO GRIT…it cuts by heat…and you can’t get it hot enough with out 1400 rpms…the 3M guys will tell you that. Technology has changed,no more cutting with 3000 grit.

Okay, but really now, these are M5s. A porter cable or cyclo is just FINE for removing the BMW dealer installed swirl marks.

Zaino is about as good as Meguiers…just saying P21s is better when used with 3M Finishing Glaze…it’s not even a question…

No. Zaino is quite good.

wheel cleaner…I would like to see someone beat Armor All wheel cleaner in the grey squirt bottle…un real stuff.

Meguiars wheel brightener, Eagle 1 A2Z, Mothers FX wheel cleaner (very safe wheel cleaner, BTW).

can you get swirl marks out by hand using anything? maybe not as amazing as shown in the pix here, but reasonably well done? i may be buying a used car for my daughter (not m5!!) that has some swirl marks that i’d like to do something with…doesn’t have to be perfect and i don’t have a buffer except my two arms…

No…not unless you can generate heat and wipe the same spot about 300 times…

Oh yes you can you stupid cunt. It takes more time and effort but it’s doable.

Washing is washing…having wax on your car, well, your just washing the dirt, dust off your wax as it is protecting your car. So, the car is clean no matter what you use, only reason you should use any soap is to get a tar spot off the bottom or something. Look is a 10, Feal is a 10

That’s why he has to remove all the swirls after he has washed these cars.

I don’t use a microfiber towel unless it’s for my windows…USE THE “ABSORBER”.

and that.

yay!

lol… You have such passion

I have passion for other people being informed.

Which is why my new website has a DIY section. Which I should probably work on sometime.

OMG discuss the horrible guy on the bmw forum!

(my website was made in 30 minutes with iWeb. It was originally meant to be an experiment to see what I can do with iWeb, but then it turned out pretty nice and I figured I should just upload it)

i really want to learn how to buff…i have some sick obsession with cleaning my car… but i dont have a buffer and i am afraid to try and fuck up my new paint.

BUWHAHA

I am pumped on your DIY section
I will be using it.
