Here’s a little photojournal for those interested in other-market car stuff…
For the most part, the Chinese domestic market seems to be expanding significantly - although there are still a good number on bicycles/electric cycles/scooters.
In the countryside, many still rely on domestic (Chinese local) makes, including interesting three-wheeler and other lash-ups. Here’s some shots of a combined tractor-pickup:
Of the newer cars most people would recognize, there’s a smattering of makes, both domestic and imported. Most domestic ones tend to be microcars, or vans, like seen here:
One major make in the news lately is Chery (for it’s potential tie-in with DCX)
Here are some of the local Chery’s I’ve seen (not the entire Chery line, and some of the newer sedans actually looked ok, but I don’t have pics)
As for the Asian makes, most of the Honda/Toyota cars are pretty much the same as the US models - with rare exceptions.
Here’s a Chinese-market Honda Odyssey - which seems lower than the US mminivan (next to a Volvo S40 for comparison):
Also, here’s a Toyota Prado (Land Cruiser) which was quite popular over there:
Nissan is unique in using the JDM names for their cars:
Bluebird: (Altima?)
Note the common stick-on theme in the first pic: Cadillac-style wreaths around the model logo on the C-pillar.
Tiida: (Sentra?)
Teana: (Maxima?)
There were others that seemed to be Infinitis (like the Cima), but I couldn’t get good shots.
Jeep was there first, and had a great number of Cherokees:
Of Ford, they seem to have the European models, that we don’t usually see:
Focus (older-gen):
Mondeo:
And of GM, Buick was the biggest name
Buick Sail (model now moved to Chevrolet)
Regal: (again, with a smaller 2.0L engine)
Excelle (sorta like the old Malibu-size, and includes a HB)
The now dead-in-the-US minivans:
And the Sino-DM Lacrosse (much better looking than the USDM one, IMHO):
Cadillac and Chevy are now there as well, though I’ve only seen one CTS and one SLS. Chevy is competing in the small-car market, now with the Sail, Aveo and Spark
its a peugeot 206 not a renault…cool pics though
i remember going on a cruise seeing a lot of cars on islands that ive never seen here before…even fords/chevys they dont make here…like the ford ka and so forth
