 first the twin cam 281, then the LS1, then came the blown snakes, then the mopar srt’s, then the GT-40, then the new z06 and now the 500 hp gt500
then with plans of the new stingray(blue meany), camaro and now an even badder mustang in the works… seems like it’s been underway for the past 8+ years or so (just now, however, putting down some serious #'s).
edit: am I the only one thats sad to see carroll shelby getting so old? man… talk about a great loss to the automotive scene. I have a feeling that he doesnt have much time left
Well lets see, the SVT Cobra has gone from 230hp in 1993, to 300 in 1996, to 320 in 1999, to 390 in 2004, to 500 in 2007. Correct me if I am wrong but thats an upward trend.
Since 1993 the Camaro has gone up consistantly. The Corvette has gone up consistantly. All attempting to outdo eachother. During the 90’s the Camaro had the edge but now it seems that Mustang is competing with the GTO’s, Chargers, and other V8 rear drive cars and that the gap between them is getting smaller all the time. To a lesser extent the Mustang competes with the Vette but that seems to be in a different class.
Totally, it will be a sad sad day when he goes. He did alot for the car industry, look at the origional gt500 that car was way ahead of its time. But he had a heart transplant and is still building fast fucking cars i hope that indicates he will be around much longer.
:word: chevy seems to have been on the ball lately when it comes to producing a high performance car. Adding more power, yet keeping the weight down, but you pay a higher price.
Ford keeps on adding weight to their cars as they add more power.
If I was looking to buy something for 45K, it would not be a 4,000lb GT500…I’d be looking at a c6…
