a transmission question.. regarding the b16a cable tranny

hi guys… i currently own a 89 civic hatch with a 98 GSR motor with b16a (cable tranny). jus wondering what happens when say… u go into first gear and u go over the limited speed… like u take 1st gear to 60-70km/hr when it can really only hit 50km/h. I did that one time and as i hit over 60km/h at 7000rpm… i heard this loud bang and the car shook… after wards… my foot was still on the gas… but i couldn’t go any faster than 60km/h… i went into 2nd and the car drove normally… i don’t think i damaged my 1st gear because when i stopped on the side of the road… and tried starting in 1st again it was still alrite… i jus wanna ask if anyone knows what happens if u take a gear over its desired speed… (i know there’s the chance of your engine blowing up taking it to high rpms) but would it damage your gears in a way too… Thanks

uhhh…

gears don’t have speed limits…

Is this a troll acount?

take your civic to the forest and ask a squirrell

wouldnt recommend you doing that to your engine again.
you may see a nice object blast through your hood.
your better asking people on the civic boards or honda-tech

civic kids always doing something crazy

squirrell’s do give great tranny advice!

i dont think it was your tranny that made that noise

uhm over the recommended speed…

I would say that this info is provided to ensure long life of the tranny.
Moreso the syncro’s.

In a S13 (everyone I’ve driven rough) it dosen’t like hard gear changes above 7000rpm, and they sometimes end up a little ‘crunchy’
