ACT throw-out bearing: Which side to install? *pics*

Silly question and I’m sure I know of the answer after spinning the bearing
and just using common sense, but before I hammer this shit in for good,
can someone confirm?

And I promise you this clutch instal wont take 8-months :run:

I believe the side #2 is what faces the pressure plate (so the TOB hub will
get pressed onto side #1 on ACT bearing).

On side #2 on ACT bearing, the top most part is what spins freely so it makes sense.

So side #1 on ACT bearing, where the lettering is, is the side I press my hub in.

I have two pics.

You have the bearings sitting opposite to eachother

The ACT side 2 is the OEM side 1

ACT side 2 faces the fins of the pressure plate

Theo

oops, you actually do have them sitting right, they just work a bit differently…

basically, hold the outer race with your fingers, then press your palm flat onto the bearing, if that part does spin freely, it goes towards the fins of the pressure plate.

If this works both ways, I would assume that the letters where it says NSK goes towards the fork.

Theo

edit yes, this is deffinitely the way it goes… letters towards the fork or tranny, or back of the car, the rounded surface goes towards the pressure plate.

Theo,

If I put ACT side #2 on my palm, and then hold the outer edge of the
bearing and spin, it spins.

So yea, side #2 on ACT does face the pressure plate fins.

Thanks mate,

No problem man

Just to confirm (hrm, seeing how I keep taking pics, I think it is going to
take me 8-months) :hsugh:

That is correct

Ok, one more pic…

Something wrong with this bearing? I just noticed the gap (the side
in this picture faces the pressure plate):

Edit: Nevermind, just read ACT’s website:

My new throwout bearing appears to be off center on the bearing retainer and wobbles. Is it defective?
There is nothing wrong with the bearing. Vehicles that have a self-centering bearing may appear to be off center or improperly manufactured, however, rest assured, the bearing will align and center itself properly during normal usage.

LMAO!

Too funny… I’ve been wanting to tell you that for a long time.

lol gonad im proud of you, some people slap it together and realize something is backwards, so better safe than sorry
