Advice on a Vacuum Leak.

Ok, well I picked up my new 240 yesterday… It drove fine earlier but on the way home I noticed the car idling REALLY weird whenever i would wait at a stop light, about right when I stopped the RPM dipped to like 200, then up to 1700, down to 1000, then slowly down to around 700. My old 240 dipped a little too, but not this bad. Anyway, I haven’t driven it long and it’s already stalled out twice on me in a situation like this.

I know it’s most likely a vacuum leak, I’m going to check that this weekend (i know how to check for it too)

My only question is, does anyone know what can be done to fix something like this? Is a DIY possible? I don’t think any of the “weird idling” threads have ever gone far enough to explain how you might go about getting rid of the problem.

If anyone can help me out it’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris K.

FYI…

I had that exact problem. It turned out after a LOT of diagnosis to be the coolant temp. sensor. Strange I know. But I guess the car didn’t know how to idle without knowing the temp. of the coolant.

I don’t know that a vac. leak would cause the idle to go UP as well…? :dunno:

Good luck, check everything you can think of.
