i survived 3 loritabs and 8 or 9 beers in under an hour …
by that standard, a beer and an OTC pain killer is fine …
The neat thing about the liver is that it’s very regenerative. It’s not as though you drink X amount of alcohol for X amount of years and BAM you have yourself a bad liver. Not many things concerning the body are absolute.
I wouldn’t be surprised if even the moderate alcohol drinker’s liver was considerably larger than the non-alcohol drinker (or the infrequent drinker). No, it is not because it was “trained” to be bigger by having to conjugate more alcohol (or acetamenophen for that matter). It is NOT a muscle. Most of it is probably dead. Enter: beer gut. I’m sure the difference between a complete non-drinker and a infrequent drinker are negligable.

Cirrhosis:

There’s also the problem of fat accumulating in the liver and hepatitis but eh, I just love saying “dead liver gut.”
This is one of my pet peeves concerning people and health–they refuse to see shades of gray.
when i almost broke my back and couldnt walk for 3 days i took 6 codeine a day and atleast a 12 pack to stay comfortably numb. you should try it.
Whenever i drink, which seems to be quite often, i take a tylenol, advil or whatever the little bottle is with a glass of water before i go to be. I find that it leaves me hangoverless for the next am. Hopefully it isn’t killing me any faster.
I should be pretty numb this whole weekend :beer2:
93DX Hatch, just go by what RedGoober is saying. You can ignore all the other posts because he gave all accurate information without speculation.
Alcohol + Ibuprofen = OK. Alcohol + Acetominophen = probably nothing will happen, but you’re risking liver failure so don’t do it. I was a pharmacy technician from the time I was 16 till the time I was 21, got certified and all that, and made it a point to keep my eyes and ears open so I learned a thing or two about drinking & medicine, but RedGoober’s posts contained more knowledge than I have. Goober are you studying pharmacy or medicine or something?
By the way, if you ever want to know if it’s OK to drink with something, just call a pharmacist and ask, even at midnight there are pharmacists on duty at 24 hour pharmacies. They will give you accurate information, not preach about drinking is bad with anything. They’ll tell you if nothing going to happen, or if you’re gonna get sick faster, or drunk faster, or dead faster.
I want to get my bachelors…in something–> apply to USC for a pharmD/PhD in toxicology. It’s a natural inquisitiveness about the subject, I suppose.
I guess my bachelors depends on which schools accept me. If UR then neurobiology, if UB then psychology, medicinal chemistry or less likely chemical engineering. I may even decide to apply to med school. Who knows. I’m in no big hurry. I’m not rushing through my bachelors to so that I can quickly apply to med school, nor am I cramming to get my pre-pharm courses in so that I can apply after my second year (I don’t know how or why people do this). I really want to know for certain what I want to do. I’ve just had fun learning what I have in the first two years.
I wonder if a multivitamin would help. Particularly vitamin c…hm, I have my reasons to believe it would. Mainly its ability to promote water storage.
I do it all the time…My liver will be dead in ten years, Fuckit!
hmmmmm i thought thats the point i was making. oh well thanks for the info, i still wont take anything with booze without questioning it, call me old fashioned i guess.
LOL…I braught up the lortab/valium just as an fyo…I am an EMT, I know alittle bit about what not to mix. Oh yeah, Tylenal is basicly Acetominophen, it actually is not recomended for hangovers due to the risk of liver damage, this is because the alcohal which is weakening you liver is still being flushed out of your system, then the acetominophen puts it under more stress…as BikerFry explained ealier, possably leading to liver failure. As far as asprine and alcohal, wont kill you, not good for you. Like it was stated earlier in the thread, just call any pharmacy and ask them, they will let you know what is an ok and what is a bad mix. Some meds say dont mix with alcohal just because it intensifies the effects…like my meds, im drunk after 4 drinks lol…and I love it lol.
