so we are trying to start my buddies car its an s 14 with a redtop sr aem ecu set up with sard 850cc injectors gm 3 bar map sensor gm intake air temp sensor a gt28 turbo. we loaded the base tune, the timing is set at 15 degrees it has a new set of plugs in it, and it takes for ever to start, shawn from intense was also there to help so we have some knowledge. but its just being a dick # 2 cylinder is running hot 300 degrees once it starts compared to the other 3 cylinders at around 150-160 degrees ,so this tells us its lean.we checked to see that all injectors are firing the same amount of fuel and they are good the only thing i could think of is that this coil is not firing consistantly. the motor misfires like crazy and just being a pain in the ass. i understand its just a base tune and it needs fine tuning but i would think it would be a little better than what it is. if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated, if Dan from U2ndyno or Sasha reads this could you please give me a call 705 796-1398 its frustrating as hell. Thanks guys
I cant see how a bad coil on #2 would give hotter temps. Have you tried to move the #2 injector to another cylinder to see if the hotter temp follows.
The misfire can be from the lean fuel condition.
Does AEM allow for individual cylinder fuel control. If yes then increase the fuel amount on the “bad” cylinder only to see if the temps go down.
If you can confirm this, its a bad injector. Then you can try to get it cleaned or replaced

I have the same start up issue and have had it across 3 different motors… i have to turn the key over for like 5-6 seconds for it to catch.
Dan told me that an AEM CAS disc will cure that but since i drive it so infrequently i havent cared enough to get it. Plus it’s only bad when the car is cold. After it’s warmed up it’s fine.
I seem to recall a certain thread, recently, that had similar problems…
Interested in the Cyl 2 issue.
Please update when you figure it out.
We kinda got the problem figured… sorta. We scrapped the base tune we were working on. We borrowed a whole other AEM computer from another car that runs almost the same set up, borrowed the cam angle sensor that my friend should of got already, tried to start it up and!.. it still won’t run lol. It sounds a lot healthier now. All cylinders are firing now but still won’t sit and idle. we thought maybe it had something to do with fuel pressure cause it sounded like it was going and then leaning out, so we made some ghetto fabulous fuel pressure gauge and t-ed it in and sure enough it was getting 40 psi. We tried messing around with it a bit longer but we didn’t get anywhere. Shawn from Intense was around again today helping out and he said something about Justins car being a slut to start up in the cold too, so we stopped while we were ahead… kinda. My buddies waiting to hear back from Dan for a base map and see if there’s anything he can think of. As of right now my buddies gunna byte it and spend the money when he sends it to get tuned and pay for the start up.
if its a cas issue go to the home screen and see if sync status is on during first crank. if so then cas is not an issue.
secondly check for timing errors.
third chech start up cal. usually most generic tuners dont know how to tune this right.
If you have trouble firing up a base motor (even with some simple changes - eg. injectors, MAP/MAF), it’s not the AEM EMS.
I think you have some sort of mechanical issue. If you have tried numerous base files AND a different EMS box the odds of a hardware issue are very slim.
Don’t be so quick to assume it just needs a “tune”.
As Gonad said, AEM base cals are typically enough to fire and idle a car without issue. If you have an issue on a 1601 box base map there is something else wrong. I have used that base on dozens of SR20DET based cars and all have worked well (provided there is no other issue)
Also, tell Jordan to check his email
k it’s running now… believe it or not it was a tuning issue. thanks for all the comments guys and especially Dan
