AEM's new dryflow synthetic filter

http://www.aempower.com/product_intake.asp?subCatID=23

Have you guys seen this new filter from AEM? It uses a synthetic filter instead of the K&N cotton style and is stronger because of it. It doesn’t need oiled(which can be bad for electronic sensors) and is very effective at filtering small particles even when clean, and flowing high volumes of air even when dirty. Plus it holds a fair bit of dirt within it before the resistance to air flow gets too high. Over all, seems like a great idea that should work very well and be fairly cheap.

Have you guys seen them around yet? I am not sure if they are even for sale allready…if not then very soon.

I was in the paper a while back. I like that you can just wash it with soap and bam your done.

Yeah they’ve been around for a while Apex’i has been using them for ages.
http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_suction_detail.asp?id=166&pageNum=1 AEM just decided to hop on the wagon, but AEM’s have been out for a few months now.

and the HKS one’s been around for 10 years. nothing new imo.

I heard the APEXI air filters do a poor job of filtering out the crap. They just flow really good, but I drive in a dirty city and want some good filtration primarily, and high flow secondary (a very close second!).

And are you refering to the HKS foam mushroom type filters? Because they aren’t supposed to be cleaned are they? I thought they were designed so that you replace the filter media easily and cheapily. As well as I have heard they are like the worst filter you can get for filtering, and they sometimes get sucked into the intakes!!

That’s why I like this AEM dry flow. It seems to flow fairly well, not quite as good as say a K&N/APEXI/HKS but pretty good, better then a OEM filter. However it also has some really good filtering capabilities. So you guys say they have been out for awhile hey…I wonder how much they sell for around here?

UMMM apex’i filters are the one of the better filtering ones.

HKS’s green mushroom is horrible.

Let me see if i can find the magazine artice on it.

That would be great if the APEXI ones are good at filtering, I just heard somewhere along the road that they were not very good. Not however backed up by any proof. I would love to see this article you are talking about.

same here. the HKS SMF filters are pretty popular with people i know.

It’s not an article, but a very interesting website I stumbled upon in the spring.

I like simple tests like that, because it’s something I could imitate!

That was also nice to see the APEXI filter doing such a good job. However I have a question about it: Are they not cleanable? The AEM dryflow is at least cleanable, is the APEXI not able to be washed out? I know you don’t oil it or anything, but just a little soap and water? I will have to try and get my hands on a APEXI filter! I want to do a little test of my own with my different filters for my car. I have a stock intake box and want to test 2 different filters along with testing a few cone type ones, I currently have a K&N cone. So if you have any leads for me to get a cheap used filter so I can conduct a few tests of my own please let me know!

I’ll see if we have any lying around @ Apex.

Cool, thanks man!
I see you are also either: enough of a loser that we still check the net on Christmas, or enough of a die hard NECC fan that we still check out the forum! I am leaning more towards the 2nd option myself!!

wow! thanks man. looks like i’m going to look for a new filter ASAP.

it’s true the HKS SMF filters are still very popular. i can’t believe how poorly they filter!
