question about HKS high power intake filters

I just bought a 180sx and it came with a hks high power intake. The pipe from the MAF to the filter and the cage with the foam filter element.

My question is: I remember hearing the foam filters are the worst for catching all the dirt. and the apex’i were the best. would others agree? I live in a fairly dirty city, would you think the foam filters are really that much worse, or not really a difference?

Feel free to share opinions, but please back them up with why you feel that way so I can make a more educated decision.

thanks

Foam filters are horrible. Swap it out for ANY 7 layer oiled cotton filter.

Please, don’t just say:
“Foam bad”
“cotton good”

back it up with a story, some evidence, a link to a page with test results, something that shares information. Doesn’t have to be indisputable proof, but give me a little more to base my decision on. Please!

thanks

HKS Mega Flow Filters
HKS state that engine power is directly related to the amount of air an engine can take in and expel. Therefore, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to increase the horsepower of any engine is to improve the airflow into the cylinders. However, many products in the marketplace sacrifice air filtration capability for improved air flow characteristics. HKS claim that their High Performance Air Filter Systems offer the ultimate in both air filtration and air flow for maximum engine performance. The elements use a special oil to stop unwanted dirt particles from passing through the multi-layer polyurethane filter. Filters are thrown away when their lifetime has expired and are replaced with new filters, which are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Apexi Power Intake Filter
The Apexi dual funnel Power Intake has evolved from the Apexi Super Intake filter with some subtle refinements in the design and filter element. According to Apexi, this resulted in a 10% reduction in pressure drop by utilizing an upper and lower funnel. The Power Intake reduces air turbulence within the filter and creates smooth air flow into the throttle body. Maintenance is kept to a minimum as this filter is a dry-type air filter and will alleviate the problem of filter oil from “wet” air cleaners, interfering with the air-flow meter.

Apexi Claim:

“Accept No Imitations…”

Check out the link for how they were tested and who came out best

Woop, just what I was going to paste in. I wouldn’t go for the HKS after reading that. I remember seeing one from Japan a few years back that had much the same results.

Blitz SUS or HPI Metal

yeah, that’s the article I remember reading last time. Thanks for bringing it up again.

I wonder who would have the best price on an apexi intake kit?

do the blitz sus intake filters need oil?

No.
