Aftermarket elect. Water temp gauge

Picked up my elect. water temp gauge. I searched a buncha other forums
on how to hook this thing up.

I’m gonna conclude that there’s a signal wire near the TB that’s used for
the on-dash water temp. gauge. I would basically tap into this wire
for my autometer gauge, right?

As Phil describes it on this pic:

The sensors are located on the front of the mani near the coolant outlet (center of pic). The single wire sensor is used for the gauge. The red plug is the coolant temp sensor for the ECU.

I would assume so, but now that your splitting the resistance wont it give you inaccurate readings?

I wouldn’t think so. I did a similar thing with my tach and I see no
difference in tach readings.

I’m not gonna cut anything until my gauge pods are made (I still have a
couple other gaues on the way)…

Get me a Vacuume gauge.

were u get the temp gauge? and how much?

I got the water temp. from some dude on TorontoCivics.com.
He also had an A/F gauge which I was gonna get but I backed down last
minute.

I’m in talk about a boost/vac gauge from a dude in Ottawa.
And I have an oil pres. on it’s way from NY, which I won on eBay.

Here’s what I paid:
Water temp (#5737) - $50 (pick up)
Oil pres. (#5721) - $57CDN shipped
Boost. (#???) - $57 shipped <-- still in discussion

I did mention this is an electrical gauge and not a mechanical one.

This is basically what I got with the gauge, except I didn’t get
that long send unit piece.

(Not my gauge but similar)…

the long pice is the thermoitor. most important pice besides the gauge hehe.

Well, let’s say the dude who sold the gauge doesn’t have the
piece (big ‘if’), how much are replacements?

I’m not sure of any shops around here besides Performance Improvements (they’re always overpriced though)…

I’ll phone him up about this…

i dont even konw if you could get another one. like phil said your going to have to get it form the manifacuter.

i mounted my sender in a brass plumbing T

Performance Improvements - $27.99 (takes about a day to get).

Can I get part # for the required T-adapter?

BTW, I also have a mech. oil pres. gauge on its way so can anyoe
provide me with the various parts (fittings and all) i would need for that?

Thanks,

its called…go to the local plumbing store with parts in hand and build it all up…thats the easiest way to do it…

ya thats an ok price
for the oil gauge you will need this as well.
1/8bspt – 1/8npt Part# 2269 Autometer for oil pressure sender $24.13 with tax at PI.

Can I get part # for the required T-adapter: T for what? if you mean to keep your oil light and have the pressure gauge then you going to have to get a different part then i sugested. i just left the oil light out casue i can always look at the gauge.

Ok, I talked to the dude who sold my gauge and he said the gauge didn’t
come with the sending unit. And that he just hooked up the sending wire
from gauge directly to the thermostat on his engine.

Is the sending unit mandatory or can I just tap into the wire that’s hooked
up to the stock unit? I mean, all the sending unit is doing is converting the
temperature to an electrical signal.

it might wor. crrent migtt be different for different gaues? i don’t know, the best thing would be to just try?

Yea, I’ll prolly stick a pin/needle (or whatever that’s good conductor) and
see what kind of readings I get…

I think the Autometer’s site lists resistance and other electrical stuff about
the kind of readings the sender picks up so I’ll see how it compares.

Would be a bitch to fork out another $30+ for the sender and T-adapter.
