So, I’ve been itching to go air for a while. Now, this isn’t something I’m looking to do immediatelly(lack of funds is a bitch, huh?). I’ve done a bit of reading and asking around, but I still don’t know enough about it. I would like a setup that requires the least maintenance, but I realize that there WILL BE things I may end up doing routinely on it. I’m also wondering about durability under daily driving conditions in our area. My car is a daily, so its out in rain, snow, cold, heat, whatever. I know that the system will need to be kept water free. SO I’d like to find something that automatically feeds alcohol into the lines and all i have to do is refill the little container when its low. Is there a certain kind of bag thats better than another? What are the bag setups out there? I remember seeing ones that are HUGE and theres no spring at all and ones that look like a shock but with a bag where the spring normally is around it.
Now, some questions:
Is it better to get a kit and get it installed or go and get it by parts depending on the car(due to weight and such).
I know, I’ll need a compressor, but I have no idea what size or if its better to have two little ones or one larger one. Is it also beneficial to go WAY over what I need, just so it lasts longer? Is there a certain kind that is better for putting into cars than others? Is theres a brand thats better than another?
I’ll need a tank, or two little tanks. Possibly no tank(but the compressor ends up working each time, right?).
4)Lines, valves. switches, gauges and other hardware. Is there a certain kind of line that stands up to weathering more than others? I’ll obviously need some spare runs just incase.
5)Management. whats a good way to operate it? is it better to get 4 switches to control all 4 wheels separately? I dont really care if my car can do a three legged dog stance. what are the ways to control it and is it possible to just preset it to HIGH for winter mode, LOW for daily driving, but low and lookin nice and SLAMMED for parking when its super low and undrivable.
My blazer has helper bags on the back to help with all the added weigh, and since one is blown I’ve needed to replace it for a while. The way it is set up right now its manual fill and I hate it. I think when I finally get around to replacing it I want to go with a automatic system with a controller
Dude, stop down to my house this week. My GF is outa town so its wrench time on everything I got going on and can chill all week. Jettas running too so you can go for a ride in it this time. I will help you out with the air stuff to, and help you pick out parts.
Air is tits for cars like yours. Not only does it look baller as hell dumped, but it rides great, and you can just air up to get over speed bumps where all these “bad ass” coilover dumpers are slamin skid plate.
Two VIAR 450c’s will fill a 8 gal in 3 minutes or less. A 5gal which is plenty for a car will fill in 2 mins. 5 gals of air will put you up and down at all 4 corners a whole bunch of times before they kick on. 100% duty cycle too
the bigger the ports on the bags the faster it will dump and fill.
My brother has all the info on air you will ever need.
yes, its a nitrogen filled expansion tank basically. You play with the pressure of Nitrogen depending on the cars weight and how you want it to ride. Great for lay and play, shitty for hopping. :thumbup
