Most of the guys making this kind of money spend a significant portion of it on partying and ‘toys’. Many are living paycheck to paycheck.
The hourly pay for working rigs is the same no matter where you work. The drilling work near Ft. McMurray is mostly pad work where many wells are drilled one after another. This is very steady compared to drilling a few wells here and few wells there.
Most of the rig jobs in McMurray, or any remote location, include accomodation in a camp. The opportunity to save a lot of money is there as you have no living expenses!
