My project is pretty much done, but I thought I’d throw together some of the in-progress pictures and some track vids of my slow cavalier.
here’s my best time slip to date
R/T … .107
60’ … 2.276
330 … 6.234
1/8 … 9.493
MPH … 74.38
1000 … 12.335
1/4 … 14.735
MPH … 95.84
its not all that impressive, but its not too bad for an automatic. I’m happy with those numbers considering the car runs mid 16s bone stock. Once I figure out how to get the car off the line quicker maybe I’ll get some impressive times
Here’s a pic from the day that I brought her home from Ohio, June of last year. She’s parked next to my old turbo OHV cav
About 3 hours after having the car home, I had swapped over the suspension, toyota tails, wheels, and seats from the old cav.
and a couple months later I installed the GMPP Ecotec Supercharger kit
and here’s the 2.5" exhaust that I added this year. The 2.25" that I had been using was killing my top end.
at the track this past weekend in Hagerstown, MD
here’s the video of a few of my runs. my car looks like its standing still compared the 9 and low 10 second cars that i ran against. they were done by the time I hit the 1/8 mile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqvAP9nE8jE
and here are some rolling shots that my friend took
Nice Cav… Not a big fan of the exhaust note, but it seems like these motors are tough to get a good sound of. The Megan racing exhaust is probably the best I’ve heard so far.
thats the problem with these cars. you can’t run any sort of straight through muffler without it sounding like crap. I was hoping that with a 26 inch resonator and a high quality muffler from Apexi, that I’d get a nice sound out of it. clearly i was mistaken. i went through several different mufflers on my old exhaust setup, cuz i couldn’t find one that sounded just right. I had a magnaflow oval muffler and a borla turbo muffler and neither sounded good. I eventually ended up with a dynomax superturbo, which sounds similar to stock, but its chambered and it seemed like it hurt exhaust flow. As far as the megan racing setup, it actually sounds ok as just a catback setup, but when you add a header and high flow cat, it sounds absolutely terrible.
if you guys have any suggestions as to what straight through muffler will sound decent, please feel free to chime in.
Yeah, I’m still decidign what I wanna do as far as exhaust goes. Maybe Jay at Domination will be able to figure somethign out when I’m ready… What did you do with the black car? I’m looking for an older trunklid without a spoiler for mine because I don’t like the rear reflector piece or the spoiler…
All straight through’s will give off that snappy and for lack of a better word, “ricey” sound. Almost raspy. The only way to cure the sound would be Chambered Muffler (Flowmaster, MAC, Spintech, etc.). Those usually offer a smoother deeper tone, but don’t improve flow. While they don’t hurt flow over stock, they certainly don’t help it.
Nice cavy. thats my favorite one ive seen so far. My buddy has a bone stock cavy with ecotec and a hacked intake and he runs 15.78. not bad for pretty much stock…
