Every summer I like to pack up the boat and go explore a lake we’ve never been to. I pick them by looking around the area on google maps for blue spots that look big enough to boat on and then do a little research on them. So far we’ve taken these trips to:
Lake Erie
Lake Ontario
Chautauqua Lake
1000 Islands
Irondequoit Bay
Conesus Lake
Delta Reservoir
Paradox Lake
Lake Saint Francis section of the Saint Lawrence River
This year it looks like we’re going to go explore Allegheny Reservoir, a dam made lake that straddles the NY/PA border.
I wish the lakes down here allowed private building along the shore. They’re all on protected state park land, no houses or anything on the lakes. Annoying.
Hah, that’s my neck of the woods. I grew up in Frewsburg and worked at a few places around Onoville. Pretty nice area.
I’d recommend checking out the Nic-L-Inn. Not a bad drive from the marina and great food. Their outside clam bar is always a good time as well. If you head in to Frewsburg, there isn’t a whole lot going on, but the Dinner Bell has good breakfast and some of the biggest pancakes you’ll ever see. The Frewsburger has great pizza and wings. Their chicken wing roll is fantastic (think stromboli, only with cheese and chicken tenders).
I agree, it’s nice to have untouched land. I just wish that there was more “stuff” to do, or more options (other than 1 overpriced location) for wet/dry docks out on my local lakes (Raleigh, NC).
