long story short, my car parked, neighbor across the street in a fog backed into it, police report: done, 5 estimates: done ($1400-1900), all her info including the claim number: done. going to contact the adjuster today, anything i should or shouldn’t reveal when i go in there? i bet she’s going to want to cheap out and put a door skin on it, but the 5 body shops i went to refused to and said would require complete door shell replacement. it’s a rear suicide door in my fag wagon of a honda Element so there are no mechanics for the window, just two speaker wires and a pop out window and blending all the surrounding panels to match.
Just have the adjuster meet the car at a shop of your choice and agrue with the shop.
If you are getting it fixed.
Or show them the estimate from the place you are having do it and say. This is where it will be fixed and this is what they want.
Shouldn’t be too bad.
Not sure if this is typical, but in my experience the shop that actually repairs the car dealt with the insurance to get paid for whatever is required to fix the car properly. I.E. Geico ended up cutting Northtown Collision a second check the last time wifey cracked up the Mazda.
Besides, under $2k is a relatively small claim so I doubt that you will have much trouble.
well, considering i have professional relationships with a few body shops i would rather the check be cut to me for the work to be done in the spring so fresh uncured paint doesn’t have to meet salt and shit right away. baked on and whatnot in the booth is fine all well and good but it’s still fragile for a bit.
is that honda paid for??? I know geico had to go to my collision shop and cut a second check. Ford and myself had to sign off on the first check since the car was being financed thru ford.
Don’t bring up it’s being financed. It just adds so much hassle to the situation. Just bring a few estimates, see what they say, show the estimates and if they don’t play your type of ball request a different adjusted take a look and see what they say.
Just get it into a shop. I used to write estimates and run a collision dept. Once the car is in the shop they will force a supplementary claim and put a whole door on it if it really needs it. but, if you are just looking to pocket the cash…your fucked for more money.
I was just mentioning this in 9c1ny’s thread, but I believe when I was hit a year ago the person had All State and they had a check made out to me for the repairs. I had freedom to choose whatever shop I wanted, but since the accident happened while I was away at school, I just left it at a local collision place. The claims adjuster assessed it and it only came out about $100 less than what I was originally quoted from the place to complete the repairs.
christ… i just read that thread, no police report :picard: wtf…
i’m considering buying the shell wholesale through work, having the paint work subletted, and installing all the guts myself. no window regulator, just the pop out glass that bolts in, and the speaker wire. i just had a windshield installed and doing quality work on expensive cars myself makes me quite the critic, i almost want to cut the fucking thing out and replace it b/c they did such a shitty job.
i know my time is worthless to the ins company but why should i discount the claim by doing so? the car is 3 years old, i take care of it, and i’m certainly going to get it fixed but i also want to wait until spring to have the paint work done.
the woman who T-boned me had allstate… after multiple weeks of TRYing to get a check from them so I could fix it. I gave up the car is at schmitts I have a rental and Ill let them deal with allstate (in the end be t it will cost them more) but thats there problem.
Yes I took it to the Allstate garage so they could do the estimite after getting 2 other quots (1 from car star on from caruba)… the guy there was a jurk (oh that couldnt have been coused by are cliant… yaddda yadda ya… (holding the popo report with said damage noted on it. ) if you dont have the busted part in hand we cant include that in the quote… yep let me pull the busted part out of my back seat lol im not draging around filthy parts of a busted bumper I threw them out.
so ill let schmitts deal with it. they have taken car of my parents cars and inlaws cars they do a good job pluse they had seen the car before when I had it rust stoped there so they know the condition Prior.
That post was a joke, right? Who the fuck gave you permission to mash that abortion of a paragraph out on their keyboard? I’m on a phone and my post will be better than yours. Wow.
wow, thanks for taking a big dump in my thread guys…
didn’t get through to the adjuster but i got ahold of her minion and faxed over an estimate and the police report (friday) and left a message this morning (monday) she called me back and said she would submit everything to be proofread ($$ amounts per hour to all the stds ect…) offered to email her a photo, did so, replied to my email half an hour ago and a check will be cut in the morning. easiest insurance dealings i’ve ever had in my life.
