bravo for effort, i’ll give the guy that much, but…
to purchase new headlamps (which are freaking expensive for our rides) then purchase all the equipment required, sandpaper, ect + the time it takes to do the work, it almost cost more to do the job yourself than to buy the aftermarket one (unless your time is worth a dollar an hour!)
as someone mentioned before, we are lucky we have an aftermarket option, or else i bet all the zenki guys (including myself) would already have their lights off and sandpaper ready!!!
i personally wouldn’t try thsi myself unless i had a second set of lamps available, BUT the lights on my mark 8 are freaking yellow, so i may try this method to clean them up a bit, but i won’t try and go clear though.
With all the money you would be spending on glass or prepping and work and fuging up light just buy the freaking german ones or the japanese ones(they are still plastic but have less lines)
this isnt a repair mod like most of you are assuming. if you have yellow zenki headlights it sucks to be you. This is for people who have newish looking headlights that havent turned yellow yet (aka mine). Thence eliminating the need for… “i rather spend the money on german lights and 3/400 dollar plastic covers”. Done properly with retrofitted hids it will definitely look sick. 3/400 bucks will definitely buy u a decent set of oem hids if you know where to look. I dunno about you, but I rather have those in my car than a clear lense with a stock bulb. For the dudes with the yellow headlights surf zilvia and read up on how to get them cleared up with a lil time and elbow grease. I have an extra headlight with a clear plastic lense lying around in my garage so im considering trying this out. If it works well on my tester, maybe i’ll hunt down some oem hids.
i think u should go down to standard and pick up some cheapo practice headlights, even if u got a spare, u might wanna hang on to that one.
your lights are clean vince, if u wanna to and make them, clear, go for it. a zenki would nice real nice with HID’s and clear lenses, no doubt!!! then again, HID’s with the konnextions…
As some of you know and you will see from my pic below my Zenki headlights are also very very clear and clean. I just dont think I would want to risk messing them up but a Hella HID kit would be nice.
May be a little better? If done with real care… and even then it doesnt quite make me convinced.
The beam pattern would be really screwed. Obviously if u replace the old cover with “custom fitted glass” on the headlights they would look sick, but it would be custom made and at that rate Id rather get some s15 headlights and spend more money (ok may a lot) to get a front conversion or at least not risk to mess up my healdights (unless i got extra ones like other ppl said).
Best thing is to wait and settle for HID bulbs? ( can you get bulbs only? or u definitely need a kit? I know its a little off topic but I didnt want to start a new thread… its kinda related as it could be an alternative)
I may have missed someone saying this already but I don’t think so… you realize that what is called ’ laser cuts’, those odd shapes on the lens are there for a reason? it’s called pattern dispersal kids, and the companies spend millions of testing to get a pattern then will allow the clearest and most even dispersal of light over the predicted beam pattern. by sanding off the light diffusers/refractors, you’ve turned your headlights from a working set of beams to a $5 flashlight lens.
it’s ghetto, stupid beyond words and will get you a big fine if a cop so desires… plus if you get into an accident at night and the ins investigator sees the headlights without thier DOT pattern your Ins in void.
Thier are two types of indirect lights, lens difusion and reflector diffusion… if you want clear heads then youwill need to get a reflector back panel, Ford does this allot, prdomitantly the 90’s and up cars.
Please don’t perpetuate the ricer myth and give cops even more reason to crack down on anyone who drives and import…
