alternator bracket sparking?

in the ongoing effort to solve more problems on my jetta, i noticed last night that the alternator bracket will throw sparks when on the throttle. i suspect this could have something to do with my car losing power periodically and running like shit/stalling out. last night myself and my house mate were messing around on the car and when we pulled on the throttle cable, a few sparks would fly off the alternator bracket. is this some kind of static discharge? i’ve never seen anything nor heard of anything like this at all.

i know you guys are going to be shocked about a VW with electrical problems, i realize it’s almost unheard of, but this is a true story.

look for my next thread: WTB-ANY JAPANESE CAR

u have a ground issue

where do you go about tracing/fixing it?

What year Jetta?

1991 with a 1.8L digi2 8V (yes i hate my life)

german stuff is particularly sensitive about grounding. maybe your block-to-chassis is frayed / corroded?

Lol wtb: any japanese car.

:frowning:

 i’ll have to look.
