altima performance

What kind of power can i expect from a JWT cam, gear kit? i know it will be diff from how you treat your car and mods you have on it, but just a ball park figure. And how long does it generally take to install one of these kits. Also anyone install a ground kit? I bought a universal one from Josh at Fulblown, Josh rules. anyways anyone fell much diff in the car? Any info would be great.
thanks

Can’t offer you much help with the cam gears as Spec V’s can’t actually use them with our Continously Variable Timing System.

I did install the Apexi Superground system in the car, which comes with both a voltage regulator and grounding kit as part of the same package. I can’t say that it increased the car’s power at all, despite Apexi’s claims that it would, but I did notice a significant smoothing of the idle and a reduction in the power/rpm drop when engaging high power accessories such as the air conditioner, window defroster, or headlight systems. I would put this mod in the “nice to have” class, but you should probably concentrate on more significant mods first.

The reason I bought it is to reduce wear and tear on my electrical system as much as possible, as I’ve had cars in the past that were a nightmare to source and fix. The side benefit of a smoother idle is nice as well.

Cams and gears are very very easy to swap over as long as youu follow the procedure in the FSM, i swapped mine in about 1 hour but i was very anal about torquing everything down in various stages so it took a little longer. As for the cam gears …im assuming you are looking at the adjustable ones, you will need to get on the dyno and try different setup to get the right power band that you want, but i think just getting the adjustable gears alone is worth while…even if you dont get new cams.

Just like Flavio said, you will have to get your cam gears dynotuned to find the best performance out of them, I have Grounding wires in my car by Grounding Gear and honestly I noticed a smoother idle but the initial throttle response also happened to improve. I guess my thought with cam gears is kind of the same as with an SAFC II, if you add more performance parts you will have to re-tune the gears or an SAFC to ensure that the engine is performing at its highest potential. Anyhow that is my thought on that.

so i don’t have to get new cams if i get new gears? would that through tuning give some pony’s? sorry i am new at this.

Well, as far as I understand it, there are only two benefits to cam gears, which is, the cam gears are lighter than stock and so the car can rev a little bit faster. Also, most cam gears I’ve seen have timing adjustment capability on them, and with N/A advancing the timing can increase horsepower, though you’ll have to make sure you use premium fuel to prevent detonation.

Timing is something you shouldn’t fuck with if you don’t know what you’re doing (I don’t, and I wouldn’t do it without experienced help), but if you tune the car on the dyno with the timing advances you will be able to gain a few HP.

If you get camshafts and cam gears you could potentially see some nice gains. But Dynotunning will be a must.

yea my body Josh from Fulblown has a buddy that has a dyno and can tune cars so no worries there. What kind of cam gears should i go with? I only know of the JWT, is there any other ones for a 95 altima?
