Amherst is getting a CarMax

If any of you have been following this it isn’t exactly new news. The story first broke back in 2015, but being NY, it’s taken this long to get all the approvals to complete the simple process of knocking down an old hotel and turning into a car dealership (yay business friendly NY!).

In any event, the final approvals are complete and CarMax expects to start construction in 2018 and be open by 2019.

The biggest interest I have in this is really reasonable prices for 6 year bumper to bumper warranty on higher end cars. Pretty cool way to get into a more exotic daily driver and not have to worry about it putting you in a poor house with repair costs.

MEH…

Would be curious to see what they consider low cost extended service agreements on high end cars is considered

Could be a cool option. I think they stopped selling LR though after the guy on Jalopnik bragged about how much he benefited from their warranty.

They still sell the LR warranty, it’s just doubled in price.

Damn, lol.

I did a search a while ago and it seemed like you could get some interesting cars (AMG, ///M, etc) but they’re mostly out of state. I wonder how easy it is for them to transfer cars from locations?

Looks like it depends on distance. I was looking at S5 cabriolets and this one is just $349 to transfer to Rochester from VA.

Where as this one is $999 to transfer from CA.

I was trading in a newer Rav4 to the one in Austin TX. Their offer was $5500 lower than Beepi and $4000 less than the local Toyota dealer.

Sold the car to beepi and had check in hand next day.

Did not find their prices to be all that good, and the prices are non negotiable.

Seems like a place for lazy people or non smart people to spend money.

The one in Austin and the one in San Antonio are both huge.

I’m in.

It’s for people with zero negotiating skills. I’ve met a lot of people who are terrible at buying cars and negotiating with dealers.

Must be nice to sell stuff though and not have to deal with stupid assholes offering half asking price…

I dunno, I’ve been buying new Hondas since '05 and keep building equity and end up way in the black every time… I make reasonable and respectful counters since dealers are in the for-profit business, shake hands and walk out a happy repeat customer. Maybe I should start buying junk from the big three or join the 100k+ euro club so I have to shop used like a tax return millionaire.
