Angryhero's STI thread

I have a thread on buffaloscooby but thought id post up here as well.

I got the car in June and have been fixing it up.It was in a minor front end crash. It has 100 k on her so i figured a water pump and timing belt change would be a good idea. The rad support was cut out as is was bent in a good amount. Here are a couple pics of the timing being done.

It was the first time i ever did a timing belt on these cars.I just downloaded the dealer instructions. It was pretty straight foreward.I needed a buddy to help me hold the cam in place while i lined the belt up.It was a little tricky but if i did it again id make a tool to hold both cames in the same position.

I had some pics somwhere of the rad support being welded in but i cant find them right now.So here it is with it welded painted and radiator and bumper support on.All these were taken with my phone so there not the best quality

Car starts up great! drove it around the parking lot.It needs brakes real bad but thats later.Put a new ac condensor in it.Hooked it up and only had to pay for the freon:) .Blows ice cold now
Since im painting half the car anyway(fenders were chipped up) I decided to fix the bumper that was falling off the back.I said fuck it I mine as well paint the whole thing and get all the dents and dings out.Plus there was a good dent in the roof as well…

Heres the rear bumper after a little work done to it.Primed the side skirts and rest of the front bumper(fog covers, sliders). All the work was done in a paint both.My father helped alot.Actually its more like I helped him.Im all mechanical and not so good with the body work, but he walked me through every step and had him check my work

We put the car in primer right after. We useed the best primer out there ,chromapremier pro.Its super expensive and what we used to shoot parts of the car cost over $40 compared to the regular primer most places use it would cost only a few bucks.

I had a lot of misc work i had to do like put all the door skins back on,handles, mirrors, moldings.I had to wait for some parts from subaru.

As i mentioned in my other thread it threw a p0021 code so i took the rad out and checked the timing and i took out the avcs oil screens and it hasent come back on since. Also changed the oil.It was leaking some oil and i was a little worried but once i got home i figured out the oil filter was actually lose! I turned all the rotors and fixed the stuck back caliper. When i took the calipers off 3 rear bolts snapped off and i couldnt get them out with heat or extracters.I had to drill them out for the most part.Front caliper stripped and had to wait on a helacoil kit and thats all good now.Grille will be here when i get back from my vacation around wed.

I have probably a good 4 hours of cleaning everything up and another 2 hours putting in the fender liners undertray and bumper.Plan on getting some type of pillar for some gauges in the near future.Look for final pics before next weekend.

Here she is almost all done.Subaru gave me the wrong fenderliner twice.Snapped a wheel stud but that it took longer to go to the store then fix that.I was hitting up some curves on the robert moses going to the casino last night.I LOVE this car

Plan on modding it eventually.Im still deciding to just build an entire motor on the side and drop it in or just do basic stuff and keep a stock bottom end.

looks like it turned out good, but just curious. if you painted the whole car, why didnt you just prime the whole car? i know with certain colors if you dont prime everything you can see where the paint will be slightly lighter or slightly darker from areas not being primed, and i would have thought silver would be like this.

Is this Skurges old car?

Yeah it is. Everything turned out great

 good for you

Was going to put my ACT clutch in this weekend but a deer had other plans.Man the insurance company isint going to be to happy since i just got coverage about 2 weeks ago with a new company

The deer flew about 10-15 feet high. It was a gonner, car hit him in the head/shoulder. I finished it off.At least i got some deer meat now.The police werent even sure if i needed a tag anymore so I just took it home.

Looks like the rad support is a little bent.fender is toast.Hood has a little lip now, needs a new headlight as well. I put 1500 miles on this thing since August.Jeez what luck
Im going to estimate about $3000-4500 in damage.Ill know furthur details when the insurance rep comes here this week

Nice thread.

:word:

Hell yeah, excellent job on bringing her back from the dead.

Mmm I like sti’s. Nice job

Nice work.

Sucks that you hit a deer.

You make a good point…But, you need to remember that primer is used for adhesion. The OEM finish has good adhesion. Primer is only nessecary on bare metal or plastic to give the paint something to grab onto. You do not need to prime over painted surfaces. In fact, you are just wasting primer and building up panel thickness.

Silvers and Reds are to most notorious colors to respray, on small areas. Blending panels is one method to achieve a less notable fade. But, you will still see the fade depending on how hard you look for it. This car turned out really nice as it appears to have been completely re-sprayed and re-cleared. Re-spraying the whole car masks the uneven Paint/Primer pattern due to the opacity of the Silver paint.

Now, if you use shitty paint then you will see the underlying color. This was obviously no nickle and dime job.

One thing to note, the OP masked over the door handle openings and jambs when he was spraying.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/angryhero46/GetAttachment6.jpg

This is a good method if you are worried about build-up on the panels. This can lead to a poor gap around each panel if you have to do more finishing work. Good tip.

Slightly OT: Most collision shops “spot” paint. Meaning, apply paint to the smallest portion of the damaged panel as possible, scuff the whole panel, and re-clear the whole panel. As a business plan this totally eats any costs associated with “overhead” on a insurance job. You could “spot” paint 10 cars individually and re-clear them all at the same time. Generally speaking you can tell if a car has been “spot” painted at some point in its life from 3 feet away.

yep, my old car, the one many people bitched about not being stock :stuck_out_tongue: lol

cant believe you hit a deer with it! i still kick myself every day for selling it :frowning: would trade my S2K for another sti anytime!

Got the check today. $5200 in damage. thanks for the $4700 check geico .Plan on doing the clutch and exhaust this weekend.
