So to add to the list of current cafe builds here is what i have been working on slowly over the past 7 months.
Here is what I started with…
I bought the bike for a couple hundred bucks last summer and was told all it needed was a valve adjustment. It turned out that it needed an entire top end rebuild. I replaced the jugs and pistons, and all the top end gaskets and seals. I also rebuild the carbs and replaced the brushes on the charging system, a weak charge was allowing the bike to idle perfect but it would not rev over 3k.
Before it went back in…
Now that it was running I started on a few other things
-getting an 18in rear wheels
-new gold o-ring chain
-xs750 tank
-clubman bars
-k&n pod filters
-cafe seat from hotwingglass.com (this included chopping/reworking the rear portion of the frame)
-triumph thruxton rear shocks (a LOT taller than the factory parts, the center stand no longer lifts the rear wheel off the ground)
-custom battery tray under seat
-building my own wiring harness
this is what it looks like currently…
also got a tail light off a cbr100rr w/integrated signals that after taking a bit off the tail section is going to work great…
plans are to get it wired back up and ride it a bit to make sure things are mechanically sound then take it apart again and get everything cleaned up, painted/powder coated and replace things like swing arm bushings, steering head bearings, progressive springs in the front, upgraded front disc/caliper and rearsets.
