The city health department issued a statement, warning anyone who visited Socialista in Manhattan’s West Village on February 7, 8 or 11 to get a vaccination.
Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by a virus and is spread from person to person by putting something in the mouth that has been contaminated with traces of fecal matter from an infected person, the department said.
You don’t treat Hep A. You rest, get lots of fluids, and wait for your body to build up the antibodies. If you’re generally healthy you’re better in a week or two. Some people end up sick for months though but very few suffer any permanent liver damage. Once your body has built up the antibodies you can never get it again.
And picturing Madonna suffering through a week or more of vomiting and diarrhea made me smile a little bit this early Friday morning.
