Another overpromised underdelivered hybrid (Fisker Karma)

GM would fuck it up.

GM purchases Fisker Karma design and tooling, also announces the re-incarnation of Pontiac…

edit: just realized that JayS drives a Pontiac lol

Hah… no probs. I look at the Holden Monaro then at my GTO and fully admit GM fucked it up.

Wards, confirmed that VL Productions had obtained 20 Karma “gliders” without a battery, engine or electric motor, and that VL may purchase Karma hybrids from dealers currently looking to dump their inventory. Lutz also says that hundreds of current Karma owners have approached VL Productions about the possibility of converting their hybrids to V8 power.

That conversion could cost between $85,000 and $95,000. Right now, VL has around 100 orders for standard Destino models, each with a price tag of $185,000. Not surprisingly, much of that demand has come from the Middle East. Wards reports that the first wave of deliveries are set to begin in the third quarter of this year. Buyers can expect to find a 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 engine lifted from the Cadillac CTS-V under the hood, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Used Fisker Karmas, which sold for $103,000 just a year ago as new models, are now being sold for roughly half price. In some cases, those trying to sell the luxury extended-range electric car on eBay cannot even get bids above $50,000.

KEEP THOSE PRICES FALLING!

V8 swap, the ultimate solution to all the world’s problems

Has there been a swap yet?

Take thatliberals.

Did you miss the post about the LS9 swaps?

President Bush initiated these EV programs.

I meant it as a joke and jab at the typical prius driver.

thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-aaaaaaaaaanks

True, but Fisker wasn’t given money until an ATVM conditional loan in 2009 as part of the stimulus package. It was the Obama DOE.

And when you examine the private money & effort put into Fisker (Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore, etc.) a handful of wealthy liberals did bet wrong.

Oh, well. I still think it’s a great looking car and maybe Orlando Bloom will sell his to me for $20k in a year, lol.

… Manheim projects Fisker wholesale values will drop to $28,400 by next May.

:eekdance:

LS swapped Fisker here we go!

i’ve been seeing a number of Tesla’s around.

they are really nice looking but definitely look like they are 4-5 years old with those body lines.

it’s gotta be hard to keep up with Merc and BMW styling though.

I was on the highway with one today and noticed it had a dual caliper set up on the rear.

Remind me next May to buy one if they are that cheap.

Yes, they should add excessive wheel arches and character lines.

Lutz told Automotive News, now that some disputes have been settled with necessary suppliers, that the Destino will be produced beginning next year and that he’s bought 25 never-sold Karmas to fit a new face and a V8 with either 450 horsepower or 638 supercharged horses.

Interestingly, Lutz is extending the V8 magic to existing Karma owners by offering to convert their cars to gasoline-only propulsion for just $10o,000 – roughly 100% of the Karma’s original price.

They’re back…

The company is now called The New Fisker, and a new website is up, promising… quite a lot actually.

First off, The New Fisker plans to restart production of the Karma electric sedan, which has been in production in Valmet, Finland, until just a couple years ago. Second, the company wants to restart development of the smaller Atlantic sedan, which we saw at the 2012 New York auto show. Third, the Surf shooting brake and the Sunset convertible would see a return to development as well.
