Anti-Israel and Anti-Semitism, same thing?

I am just curious to what people here think about this subject. It seems to me that if you speak out against Israel you are called an Anti-Semite even if you really aren’t. Does anyone else notice this connection? I guess Israel can do no wrong.

It’s called a double standard. They are everywhere and aren’t going anywhere fast.

anti-anything is hate if you’re vocal about it. If you say you’re anti-Israeli foreign policy or anti-settlements but when you sum it all up to anti-this-one-particular-country without specifying what part of it and why, then it is assumed that you just hate the people, who in this case are all jewish.

Israel is a symbolic name for its people, the Jews. You cant hate America without hating Americans.

You can hate the American government without hating Americans. Same goes with any country, but it usually goes hand-in-hand with hating the population of said country as well.

but there is a difference. being anti-semite means you dislike ALL jews, and being anti-Israel means you dislike the country and its policies.

People seem to forget that not all Israelis are Jewish, and not all Jews are Israeli. Just like Arabs and Muslims are not 100% synonymous.

You’re not being completely accurate there, being an anti-semite does not mean that you hate ALL jews literally, but that you hate them in general.

also, while every Israeli is not literally jewish, it’s an extremely high percentage. Actually when the include the Palestinian areas which Israel controls into the statistic, its still 80% jewish.

So therefore my initial statement stands. If you say you hate Israel, your statement would understandably be taken as you hate jews.

If you were more specific with your statement and said: I hate Israels xxxxxxxx policy, then your statement suddenly offers the additional information for someone to accurate interpret what exactly you dislike.

cant we just nuke the entire middle east already?

I dunno man, I think Israel is pretty bad ass. Palestinians hit their city with an RPG and they drop an entire payload on them. I say nuke everyone BUT them.

Fuck Israel.

anti-semite originally just meant hatred of a religion, thank hitler for it meaning hatred of jews…take that as you will.

Hitler was cool, just got off track and a lil crazy mid-term. ;O

just a little crazy, not like full blown crazy. lol.

im jewish

this

that arguement really isnt valid. I can say I’m anti-Italy and that doesn’t mean I’m anti-Catholic. Italy has a higher % of Catholics than Israel does of Jews.

Theres always one of you in a crowd tho. Catholisism is not too Italy as Judiasm is to Isreal othen than maybe on regents tests.
Italy is not held in the same regard by its minyons, its just a fact. Thats the idea behind “context”.

ok, i guess that would be a bad example according to you. I’m just trying to show there is a difference in regards to “church” and state when talking about being anti-something.

How about anti-Iran vs. anti-Muslim? or anti-Middle-Eastern terrorist vs anti-muslim?

on another forum, everyone has said that anti-israel is completely different than anti-semitism. not sure why it’s different on this site.

There’s a difference between being anti-Israel (or anti-Semitic) and disagreeing with something a country does. That said, a great many supporters of Israel take any such disagreement as a personal condemnation. If someone says that he disagrees with Israel’s actions in the Flotilla situation, many Israeli supporters will call him a Nazi.

In recent years Israel has been seized by a sort of right-wing ultranationalism that makes Bush/Cheney look like liberal doves. A lot of the Israeli public agrees with this. Some say it’s because Israel and the Jews have been forced to defend themselves forever and have graduated to preemptive strikes.

Basically, the mentality of those who cry anti-Semitism at the first sign of disagreement are the same people who think that if you’d like Sarah Palin to take a spelling test then you’re probably burning flags in your yard.

You know…morons. The same kind of reactionary screamers who have fucked intelligent debate in this country.

Lets take a sec and put this in perspective, to further my point. Ill address yours head on later.

If a jew blows up a building in Chicago, most jews wont hate Israel. If an Itialian blows up a building in Chicago, people and claimed Catholics alike would be all hatin on Italy for a while.
