That has nothing to do with the terrible public education in the USA.
1.) It’s the Republican states that are lagging in education, because they DON’T spend any money on it. A Southern education is a joke. That’s why they’ll hire New York graduates over the phone to teach there, if they’re willing to make $20k a year. A New York education would put us a lot higher up, if everyone had the opportunity to receive it. When I almost went to University of South Carolina, they showed me the course map and what prerequisite knowledge you were supposed to come in with, and literally the first 2 years would have been review for me from HS, whereas it was all new to them.
2.) It does have something to do with it. They get 4-5 more years of free schooling than we do, if they’re qualified. Gives them an incentive to do well, and provides the best and brightest that go into math and science way more training. Thus, when the test comes, they kick our asses.
You really, really don’t know anything about how our schools are compared to those overseas.
If you had the curriculums designed by teachers instead of politicians you would have a lot better scores.
2 years ago I worked for a school district that had to spend 28 class days dealing with testing for the state.
Thats over a month of actual school days gone for testing, what a waste.
You have classroom sizes getting bigger and no one is going to convince me that class size doesn’t matter.
You have more and more parents trying to be their kids friend rather than parent.
And the states keep adding to the curriculum before we can get these kids to master the previous curriculum.
Do you know some schools require graphing calculators their freshman year? WTF is that?
We don’t realize that some students may not be able or willing to succeed in schools but offer little in the form of an alternative. BOCESE has been cut in many areas or have few openings for students. So we just force them through because there is not an alternative.
I have had students with reading and understanding skills of a 1st grader do to mental illness that were still required to take my course and take the state test. Their test scores count just as much as the next student. That does not happen in Europe.
So pardon me if I don’t give a shit about how we rank, because ranking means dick.
We need more teachers, and more programs for students at every level of ability and we need less mandated, useless and time wasting state testing.

Yes it was much better to have a government that spied on us and had secret torture facilities. Lied to us about going to war. Personally get involved in the family affairs. Spend billions of dollars to save the banks but didn’t do anything to keep track of the money, not to mention the billions lost in Iraq.
