I was wondering if anybody else here has an MR2.
I usually see a couple fairly often in the South Hills. Usually just MKII’s (a red one in South Park, a white one in BP, and a black/blue one at SH Village), but I have also seen a few nice MKI’s.
I also want to get in touch with other MR2 owners to let them know about our small monthly Pittsburgh area dinner meets in Robinson:
My younger brother has a Green '92 n/a MR2.
I see a white Turbo MR2 at the track sometimes. It’s pretty clean and runs mid 14’s. Let me know when you have those Robinson meets. My brother and I will probably stop out.
I might pick one up this spring if i find one for the right price.
are you the guy who drove to VA or NC for that car. i remember a post about that like a year ago or something :dunno:
He drove to Kentucky to pick up that car, so that’s probably the one one you’re thinking about.

The guy that owned the white 1992 turbo sold it a while back. He lived in Hopwood so he would head up to PRP whenever he got a chance. I’m not sure if the new owner is from the area or not.

My dad just picked up a 92 n/a MR2. White and dead stock. He’s already looking for turbo engines or Camry V6s.
While we’re on the topic, anyone got any good websites to suggest for these cars? I googled a few, but found content pretty thin…

tell you everything you want to know bout the 5sfe(your current engine) and the 3sgte. Youll have the most success out of swapping a 3sgte in that car. Its pretty simple and the mounts are the exact same as the 5s. and you can keep the same tranny. Alot of people like to turbo the 5s motor but the power gain isnt really that powerful. You might end up getting aobut 50+ Hp out of a turbo 5s. And a 5s motor isnt really made for boost I blew up two of them only running a very small amount of boost… I think like 5-7psi? But Im me if you have any questions about toyotas… my aim name is Burneeeed.
Agree that you aren’t going to get very far with working on the 5S. I had some work done to my 5S about 5 years ago (cams, p&p, increased compression, etc) but it just didn’t do it. I made it to 150 rwhp, which is still a little lower than a 3SGTE stock. I ended up swapping in a 3SGTE and then going from there with the Greddy turbo, intercooler, etc.

the 5s is a good economy/daily drivring motor… but if you want a high reving/ high horse power motor its not a good selection haha…wow only 150 to the wheels… thats bad man…
My brothers MR2 is starting to struggle. With over 170k miles on the clock, the engine is missing, the synchros are going bad and a bunch of little things are all taking their toll.
He needs a new motor soon. Hopefully the 3sgte.
