“Showdown at Sundown” - Motordrome Speedway Spectator Drag Races Added Weekly!

SMITHTON, PA (May 14, 2005) - The NASCAR-sanctioned Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, PA, will offer race fans the opportunity to “drag race” on the front straight pavement prior to the start of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series competition on Friday nights starting May 20, 2005. Dubbed “Showdown at Sundown,” the spectator drag races offer FREE participation with paid admission to any licensed and insured driver with a street legal automobile. Slated for 7:00pm each Friday night through September, weekly winners will be determined by eliminations in three classes of cars.

“Many race fans wish to drive on a NASCAR speedway, and ‘Showdown at Sundown’ provides a safe, legal, controlled environment for performance enthusiasts to get their fix,” stated Motordrome Speedway president James “Red” Miley. “Giving ordinary folks a chance to compete with one-another for FREE will be a win/win situation for the participants and the observers. We invite everyone in attendance at Motordrome on Friday nights to give it a try.”

The rules are quite simple. Participants are asked to line up by 6:30pm each week at the pit gate (off the back straightaway). At 6:50pm, racers will be allowed to take two practice runs off turn four. Promptly at 7pm, the two-by-two drag race eliminations begin, with participants matched by “class,” or type of car. All cars will return to the main spectator parking lot after competition, and the participants will return to the grandstand areas. All car entered must have valid PA inspection sticker, registration, and all participants must show proof of insurance. The “Showdown at Sundown” is only open to licenced drivers. Classes are: 1) Full size American vehicles, Ford, Chevy, or Dodge; 2) All other makes V6 or V8; 3) Sport compacts and all 4-Cylinder vehicles, domestic or import.

“Showdown at Sundown” drag racing will be part of pre-race festivities each week, as the starting time for the six-division NASCAR Weekly Racing Series remains 7:30pm on Friday nights.

nice find

ill try my luck there :blue:

sweet!@

cool!!!

Cool.

I’m a little confused, you race down the main straightaway out of turn 4? Like roll racing? It’s all you Shag!!! Or is it from a dig? Either way, I’m up for it.

Hmm Interesting. Nice find!

Thanks i just don’t understand i guess there gona use the caution lights at the front stright i think everyone starts from a dig.

I thought the straights were banked…if so this will suck

^ x2, can we just drive around the track at a high rate of speed instead? lol

how would u do that?

Ha, ha. Relentless.

I remember when they had people driving around the track to dry it once and some dork in an Escort spun it. He got a lot of applause though.

:ugh:

thats pretty ghetto

hmmm, that doesnt sound like a whole lot of shutdown area

that’s not a problem for shelby, he only needs about 54 feet to stop from his top speed of 46 mph

Agreed.

But i seriously dont think i could race there full speed. I have a hard enough time shutting down at PRP. Going from 130 mph to 0 mph is tough even with upgraded 300zx brakes and brembo rotors. Maybe i should get a chute?

a chute would kick ass. :bigthumb:

poop chute?

If it’s just the straightaway, then it’s only a short distance since the whole track is a 1/2 mile. But still, ending at a curve is a little iffy.

i bet this gets shut down… there is no way that the person on the outside is going to be able to shut down in time with out hitting the wall
